Job summary

Australian Cruise Group on Sydney Harbour seeks motivated General Purpose Hands (Deckhands) to support safe operations and guest experiences across our vessels. You will work under the Marine Operations Manager, assisting with berthing, watchkeeping, vessel presentation, and deck maintenance.

Ideal candidates will hold an AMSA GPH endorsement, NSW RSA, and have full working rights in Australia. Prior deckhand experience is desirable but not essential; a strong safety mindset and teamwork are

• AMSA GPH endorsement is required.
• NSW RSA competency card is required.

• Experience as a General Purpose Hand or Deckhand is desirable but not essential.

Responsibilities

• Assist the Master with safe vessel operation during cruise operations.
• Support berthing, unberthing, mooring, and securing vessels at wharves.
• Assist with watchkeeping duties as directed by the Master.
• Ensure vessels are presented and maintained to a high standard before departures.
• Perform cleaning, detailing, and general deck maintenance duties.
• Assist guests with boarding and disembarkation.
• Work with onboard hospitality teams to support cruise experiences.
• Provide warm, professional, and safety-focused customer service.
• Assist with onboard safety procedures and emergency preparedness activities.
• Contribute to a positive, professional, team-focused workplace culture.

The Role

We are seeking motivated and safety-focused General Purpose Hands (Deckhands) to join our marine operations team.

Reporting to the Marine Operations Manager, you will support the safe operation and presentation of our vessels while helping deliver exceptional guest experiences across our fleet.

Key responsibilities include:

• Assisting the Master with the safe operation of the vessel during cruise operations
• Supporting berthing, unberthing, mooring, and securing vessels at wharves
• Assisting with watchkeeping duties as directed by the Master
• Ensuring vessels are presented and maintained to a high standard before every departure
• Conducting cleaning, detailing, and general deck maintenance duties
• Assisting guests with boarding and disembarkation
• Working alongside onboard hospitality teams to support the delivery of cruise experiences
• Providing warm, professional, and safety-focused customer service
• Assisting with onboard safety procedures and emergency preparedness activities
• Contributing to a positive, professional, and team-focused workplace culture

About You

You'll ideally have:

• A valid AMSA General Purpose Hand (GPH) endorsement
• A current NSW Responsible Service of Alcohol (RSA) competency card
• Full working rights in Australia
• Previous experience as a General Purpose Hand or Deckhand desirable but not essential
• A strong commitment to safety and customer service
• The ability to work effectively as part of a team
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills
• A positive attitude and willingness to learn
• Availability to work a rotating roster, including evenings, weekends, and public holidays
