Job summary

Prestige Paving in Melbourne's eastern suburbs is seeking an experienced General Manager to lead the Asphalt Paving division. You will be accountable for the division's P&L, budget, forecasts and overall financial performance, reporting to the Senior Leadership and guiding the Asphalt Manager.

You will develop plans to win larger projects, oversee tendering and pricing, manage contracts and risks, and build strong client relationships, especially with councils.

Qualifications

• Significant experience in asphalt paving or road surfacing, with progression to senior management.
• Proven P&L and budget responsibility.
• Experience leading managers, employees and subcontractors.

Responsibilities

Prestige Paving is a privately owned civil construction business based in Melbourne's eastern suburbs. We are seeking an experienced General Manager to lead our Asphalt Paving division.

Reporting to the Senior Leadership and leading the Asphalt Manager and Asphalt Business Development and Estimating Manager, you will have overall responsibility for the Asphalt Paving's financial, commercial and operational performance.

As General Manager - Surfacing, you will:

• Take responsibility for the division’s P&L, budget, forecasts and financial performance.
• Develop and implement plans to continue growing the division through larger asphalt projects.
• Oversee major estimates, tenders, pricing, contracts and commercial risks.
• Build and maintain relationships with key clients, particularly councils.
• Provide direction and accountability to the Asphalt Manager and Asphalt Business Development and Estimating Manager.
• Ensure the division has the people, subcontractors, plant and resources required to deliver its workload.
• Monitor project performance, productivity, margins, safety, quality and client service.
• Improve the systems and processes required to support continued growth.

This is both a strategic and operational role. You will have the autonomy to manage the division and determine when you need to become directly involved in operational or commercial matters.

About You

You will have significant experience in asphalt paving or road surfacing, ideally having progressed through operational roles into senior management.

You will also bring:

• Demonstrated P&L and budget responsibility.
• Experience managing a sizeable operational division or business unit.
• Strong knowledge of estimating, tendering, pricing, contracts and project costs.
• Experience leading managers, employees and subcontractors.
• Strong client relationship and negotiation skills.
• The ability to set expectations, monitor performance and hold others accountable.
• A practical and decisive leadership style.
• A strong understanding of safety, quality, risk and compliance.

Experience growing a division and established relationships within the Victorian asphalt or civil construction industry will be highly regarded.
