About the Role

As General Manager, Group Internal Audit, you will lead an independent, objective and commercially focused Internal Audit function for Insignia Financial. Reporting functionally to the Chairs of the Group and RSEL Audit Committees and administratively to the Chief Financial Officer, you will provide risk-based assurance, insight and constructive challenge across governance, risk management, internal controls and remediation activity.

This is a senior leadership role with direct and unrestricted access to key Boards and Committees. You will set the internal audit strategy, lead a high-performing team, manage the co-source provider relationship and build trusted, constructive relationships with executives, management, regulators and external assurance providers while maintaining the independence, objectivity and authority of the function.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Set the internal audit strategy, operating model and annual objectives for Group Internal Audit, aligned to business strategy, risk profile and regulatory obligations.
  • Develop, maintain and deliver a dynamic, risk-based Internal Audit Plan for approval by relevant Audit Committees and subsidiary Boards.
  • Provide independent assurance and clear reporting on governance, risk management, internal controls and remediation activity.
  • Maintain trusted, transparent relationships with Audit Committee Chairs, Boards and Executive Management, including timely escalation of material issues.
  • Lead, coach and develop a high-performing Internal Audit team, building capability, professional discipline, curiosity and commercial judgement.
  • Manage the co-source provider relationship, including scope, quality, value, independence, performance and knowledge transfer.
  • Oversee audit execution from planning through fieldwork, reporting and issue closure, ensuring findings are evidence-based, risk-rated and pragmatic.
  • Drive a robust audit methodology and quality assurance program aligned to recognised professional standards and better practice.
  • Promote a strong risk, compliance and internal control culture by monitoring emerging risks, identifying systemic themes and supporting sustainable remediation.
What you will bring:
  • Relevant tertiary qualification in commerce, accounting, business, law, technology, risk or a related discipline; CIA, CA/CPA, CISA, CRMA or equivalent certification is highly regarded.
  • Extensive experience in internal audit, external audit, risk assurance, compliance, governance or financial services assurance, including senior leadership experience in a complex private sector environment.
  • Deep understanding of internal audit standards, audit charters, risk-based planning, audit methodology, quality assurance and Board/Audit Committee reporting.
  • Strong knowledge of Australian financial services, superannuation, wealth, advice, trustee and regulated entity environments.
  • Proven ability to assess risks and controls across operations, finance, technology, cyber, data, outsourcing, third parties, transformation and regulatory change.
  • Experience working with Boards, Board Committees and Executive teams, with the confidence to provide independent challenge and elevate difficult matters constructively.
  • Strong commercial judgement, communication and writing skills, with the ability to translate complex audit issues into clear insights, practical actions and accountability.
  • Proven leadership capability, including experience leading high-performing teams and external co-source service providers.
  • High personal integrity, discretion, resilience and sound judgement, with a commitment to independence, objectivity, confidentiality and ethical conduct.
Why Join Us?

This is a rare opportunity to lead a strategically important assurance function at the heart of a large, regulated financial services organisation. As General Manager, Group Internal Audit, you will provide independent, risk-based assurance and constructive challenge to senior executives, Boards and Audit Committees, helping strengthen governance, risk management and internal controls across the enterprise. You will shape the audit strategy and operating model, lead a capable team, partner with a co-source provider and influence meaningful improvements that support clients, members, advisers, shareholders and stakeholders. For a senior audit leader who values independence, integrity, commercial judgement and impact, this role offers the opportunity to contribute at Board and executive level while supporting Insignia Financial to operate safely, ethically and sustainably.

Applicants will be required to provide evidence of their eligibility to work in Australia, and at a minimum be required to undertake police and basic credit checks as a condition of employment.
