Your new company in Sydney is seeking an experienced Internal Audit Consultant to join its high-performing team in Sydney. You will lead audits from planning through reporting, collaborate with stakeholders across the business, and strengthen governance, risk management and internal controls.

The role offers a flexible hybrid working model with two days working from home, direct exposure to executive leadership, and ongoing professional development opportunities within a modern Sydney CBD office.

Qualifications

• Experience in Internal Audit within insurance or financial services.
• Solid understanding of audit methodologies, risk frameworks & control environments.
• Experience managing audits from planning through to completion.
• Excellent stakeholder engagement and communication skills.
• CPA, CA or equivalent qualification is highly regarded.

Responsibilities

• Plan, coordinate and deliver internal audit engagements from scoping to reporting.
• Prepare audit programmes, work papers, testing documentation and evidence.
• Evaluate effectiveness of internal controls, risk management and governance.
• Identify control weaknesses and opportunities for improvement.
• Prepare clear audit findings and present recommendations to senior stakeholders.
• Monitor audit actions to ensure timely remediation.
• Build relationships across units and act as a trusted advisor.
• Support development and execution of the annual audit plan.
• Collaborate with external co-sourced audit providers when needed.

Your new role

• Evaluating the effectiveness of internal controls, risk management practices, and governance processes.
• Identifying control weaknesses, operational risks and opportunities for improvement.
• Preparing clear and concise audit findings and presenting recommendations to senior stakeholders.
• Monitoring and tracking audit actions to ensure timely remediation.
• Building strong working relationships across business units and acting as a trusted advisor.
• Supporting the ongoing development and execution of the annual audit plan.
• Working closely with external co-sourced audit providers where required.
• Keeping abreast of regulatory developments and industry best practice.

What you'll need to succeed

• Proven experience in Internal Audit within insurance, financial services, professional services or consulting environments.
• Strong understanding of audit methodologies, risk frameworks and control environments.
• Experience managing audits from planning through to completion.
• Excellent stakeholder engagement and communication skills.
• Strong analytical, investigation and problem-solving capabilities.
• Ability to work autonomously while managing multiple priorities.
• A degree in Accounting, Finance, Business or a related discipline.
• CPA, CA or equivalent professional qualification will be highly regarded.
