Job summary

Hassett Group seeks a General Manager to own daily operations across electrical, air conditioning, renewable energy and infrastructure. You will lead a multidisciplinary team, embed performance discipline, and partner with the Founder to scale the business.

Reporting to the Founder/MD, you will refine systems, optimise governance, drive profitability and ensure safety, quality and risk management across projects and service delivery. This is a growth-ready leadership role.

Qualifications

• Proven experience in a General Manager, Head of Operations, or senior leadership role.
• Background in construction, infrastructure, engineering, electrical, trades or project environments.
• Strong financial management, budgeting and forecasting skills.
• Experience implementing scalable processes and business systems.

An exciting opportunity now exists for an experienced General Manager to take ownership of day-to-day operations, strengthen leadership capability and drive the business forward.

ABOUT THE ROLE

Reporting directly to the Founder and Managing Director, the General Manager will take responsibility for the overall operational, commercial and people performance of the organisation. Leading a multidisciplinary team across operations, projects, service delivery, administration and finance, you will bring structure, accountability and commercial discipline to an already successful business.

A key priority will be transitioning the organisation from a founder-led operating model to a more scalable, independently managed business. You'll work closely with the Founder to strengthen leadership capability, optimise systems and processes, and build the operational foundations to support continued expansion.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Lead day-to-day business operations across electrical, air conditioning, renewable energy, maintenance and project delivery.


• Drive operational efficiency, productivity, profitability and overall business performance.


• Lead, mentor and develop a high-performing management team, establishing clear accountability and performance expectations.


• Oversee operational budgets, project profitability, labour utilisation, forecasting and resource allocation.


• Identify opportunities to streamline processes, improve systems and strengthen operational reporting.


• Develop workforce planning strategies to support business growth, capability development and succession planning.


• Strengthen collaboration between operational, commercial and administrative functions.


• Maintain high standards of safety, quality, compliance and risk management.


• Partner with the Founder on strategic planning, growth opportunities and business improvement initiatives.


• Build a scalable operating structure that supports long-term growth and reduces reliance on the Founder.

SKILLS & EXPERIENCE

• Proven experience in a General Manager, Head of Operations, Operations Manager or comparable senior leadership position.


• A strong background in construction, infrastructure, engineering, electrical, trade services, industrial or project-based environments.


• Demonstrated success leading multidisciplinary teams and managing complex business operations.


• Strong financial and commercial capability, including budgeting, forecasting, cost management and profitability improvement.


• Experience implementing operational improvements, business systems and scalable processes.


• A track record of leading organisational growth, change or business transformation.


• Excellent stakeholder management, communication and people leadership skills.


• A practical, solutions-focused approach with the confidence to make decisions and drive accountability.


• Experience within a privately owned or founder-led business will be particularly valuable, as will exposure to ISO-accredited environments and structured business operating systems.
