General Accountant – Full Time

Neighbourhood Trades | Airport West VIC 3042

Neighbourhood Trades is seeking an experienced and qualified General Accountant to join our growing team in a full-time, permanent position.

We are looking for a reliable, highly organised professional seeking stable, long-term employment with a growing company.

Working closely with our Director, CFO and Business Manager, you will manage payroll, accounts payable, accounts receivable and general accounting functions, ensuring accurate financial records and efficient day-to-day operations.

The ideal candidate will have strong accounting knowledge, excellent computer skills and the confidence to work independently across multiple financial systems.

Position Details

• Employment: Full-Time, Permanent (38 hours per week)
• Location: Airport West VIC 3042
• Working Days: Monday to Friday

Key responsibilities

Payroll & Employee Entitlements

• Managing end-to-end weekly payroll, including timesheets, overtime, allowances, commissions and deductions.
• Maintaining employee payroll records, leave balances and entitlements.
• Processing superannuation, PAYG withholding and STP reporting.
• Managing applicable CoINVEST and WorkCover obligations.
• Ensuring compliance with relevant Modern Awards and employment legislation.
• Processing new employees, terminations and payroll adjustments.

Accounts Payable & Receivable

• Processing supplier invoices, payments, credits and account reconciliations.
• Reconciling supplier statements and resolving invoice discrepancies.
• Managing payment schedules and supplier accounts.
• Managing customer invoicing, payment allocations and outstanding accounts.
• Monitoring overdue payments and assisting with debt collection.
• Processing refunds, credit notes and customer account adjustments.

Customer Finance & Internal Support

• Assisting customers and employees with HomePro Finance applications, documentation and enquiries.
• Liaising with finance providers regarding applications, approvals and settlements.
• Supporting internal teams with finance-related enquiries and processes.
• Maintaining accurate customer finance records.

General Accounting & Financial Reporting

• Completing bank reconciliations, journal entries and general ledger maintenance.
• Preparing financial reports and assisting with month-end and year-end processes.
• Supporting BAS, GST and other statutory reporting requirements.
• Reconciling financial transactions across Xero, ServiceTitan and associated systems.
• Maintaining accurate financial records and expense allocations.
• Identifying opportunities to improve accounting processes and efficiency.

What we're looking for

• Recognised qualification in Accounting or Commerce, with CPA or CA qualifications highly regarded.
• Minimum 3 years' experience in a General Accountant or similar position.
• Proven experience in payroll, accounts payable and accounts receivable.
• Strong understanding of Australian accounting practices, GST, payroll and employee entitlements.
• Excellent computer literacy, including proficiency in Xero, Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Office.
• Ability to confidently navigate multiple software platforms and quickly learn new systems.
• Experience with ServiceTitan, HomePro Finance or similar platforms is advantageous.
• Strong attention to detail, organisational skills and ability to meet deadlines.
• Excellent communication skills and the ability to assist customers, employees and suppliers.
• Reliable, professional and capable of working independently.
• Experience in trades, construction or service-based industries is highly regarded.

Essential requirements

• Recognised Accounting or Commerce qualification.
• Minimum 3 years' relevant accounting experience.
• Full Australian working rights.
• Three professional references.
• Current National Police Check or willingness to obtain one.
