Job summary

Sydney Lawns and Gardens is seeking an experienced Team Leader to guide our garden maintenance crew. You will supervise a 2–4 person team on-site, liaise directly with clients, and manage daily rosters while supporting the business owner across day-to-day operations.

This hands-on leadership role requires strong horticultural knowledge, excellent communication, and a commitment to OH&S standards. Local to Sydney preferred, with a focus across the Eastern Suburbs, city and Lower North Shore.

Qualifications

• Relevant horticultural qualification.
• Proven experience leading or supervising a small team in garden maintenance/landscape construction.
• Strong communication and client liaison skills.
• Solid understanding of OH&S and safety standards.

Job description

Sydney Lawns and Gardens is looking for an experienced and reliable Team Leader to help run our garden maintenance crew.

We're after someone who's passionate about landscape gardening, and who's ready to step up into a leadership role — managing a team of 2–4 on-site, liaising directly with clients, coordinating the daily roster, and supporting the business owner across other parts of the day-to-day running of the business.

Our team and our work is based across the Eastern Suburbs, the city and the Lower North Shore of Sydney, so being local is a big advantage.

This is a hands‑on leadership role. You'll be out in the field with the crew, not just directing from a distance — quality garden maintenance and soft landscape work, plus the added responsibility of keeping the team, the schedule, and the clients running smoothly.

Team Leader – Garden Maintenance

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and supervise a team of 2–4 on garden maintenance and landscape maintenance jobs

• Liaise with clients on‑site — understand their needs, answer questions, and represent the business professionally

• Help roster and schedule jobs, coordinating the team's daily run

• Use the provided phone and software package to schedule runs, communicate with clients, staff and business owners, and log on‑site times and materials used

• Support the business owner with other aspects of the business and daily operations

• Carry out hands‑on garden maintenance and soft landscape construction work

• Help train, guide and mentor team members

• Ensure OH&S standards are followed on every job

Essential Criteria

• Relevant horticultural qualification and experience

• Proven experience leading or supervising a small team, ideally in garden maintenance and/or landscape construction

• Passionate about gardening and landscaping

• Strong horticultural and hands‑on trade skill

• Excellent communication skills, with confidence liaising directly with clients

• Strong organisational and business/admin skills — able to help manage quoting, scheduling and rostering

• Solid understanding of OH&S

• Reliable, honest and hardworking

• Shares our values of integrity, honesty and mutual respect

• Motivated and able to work well leading a broad range of employees

• Must be a non‑smoker/vaper

Desirable Criteria

• Local to the Eastern Suburbs

• GREAT gardening knowledge

• Current manual driver's licence

• Own ute or truck

This is a full‑time salaried position (plus superannuation), working closely with the business owner and the wider team.
