Job summary

Personal Services Australia – Smeaton Grange NSW is seeking an experienced and confident Mortician to join our mortuary team. You will handle deceased care, preparation for viewing and funeral services, and help with final presentation and dressing to a high standard.

Key duties include independent basic preparation, setting hair and makeup, maintaining hygiene, and following the Mortuary Manager’s directions while collaborating with the team.

Qualifications

• Previous practical experience working as a Mortician or in deceased preparation.
• Experienced and confident in all aspects of basic preparation.
• Strong attention to detail and a high standard of presentation.
• Ability and willingness to assist an embalmer when required.
• Knowledge of infection control and safe mortuary practices.
• Ability to follow direction from the Mortuary Manager and work within established mortuary procedures.

Responsibilities

• Completing all aspects of basic deceased preparation confidently and independently
• Preparing deceased persons for viewing and funeral services
• Setting and styling hair
• Applying makeup and cosmetics appropriate for viewing
• Dressing deceased persons and completing final presentation
• Ensuring deceased persons are presented to a high professional standard for viewings
• Assisting the embalmer with embalming procedures and preparation as required
• Following instructions and priorities set by the Mortuary Manager
• Maintaining mortuary equipment, preparation areas and facilities
• Maintaining high standards of infection control, hygiene and WHS
• Treating all deceased persons with dignity, care and respect

Personal Services Australia is seeking an experienced and confident Mortician to join our mortuary team at Smeaton Grange.

We are looking for someone with practical experience in deceased care who is confident and competent in all aspects of basic preparation and can independently prepare deceased persons to a high standard for viewing and funeral services.

Presentation is an important part of this position. The successful applicant will have strong attention to detail and be confident with setting features, dressing, cosmetising, hair and final presentation for viewings.

This role will work closely with our Mortuary Manager and team. While the successful applicant must be capable of working independently, they must also be comfortable working collaboratively within a team and following direction from the Mortuary Manager.
