Job summary

Amentum is seeking a Fundamental Inputs to Capability (FIC) Specialist to support planning, coordination, and integration of capability outcomes within Defence. You will work with Army Headquarters to shape capability requirements, manage dependencies, and drive decision-making across the capability lifecycle.

Based in Canberra, ACT, this role engages a wide range of Defence stakeholders and project teams, with NV1 clearance and 6+ years in Defence or related programs.

Qualifications

  • Experience delivering or coordinating FIC activities within Defence environments.
  • Strong understanding of Defence capability development, acquisition and governance processes.
  • Experience supporting complex Defence acquisition or capability programs.
  • Proven ability to engage and influence stakeholders across Defence and industry.
  • Strong analytical skills to identify risks, gaps, dependencies, and opportunities.
  • Experience developing business cases, capability submissions, governance documentation, and executive briefs.
  • Understanding of capability integration, transition planning, and lifecycle management principles.
  • Experience supporting project planning, scheduling, and cost modelling activities.
  • NV1 Security Clearance with the ability to obtain NV2 (NV2 highly regarded).
  • Minimum 6 years of relevant experience, preferably within Defence or related field.

  • Develop and maintain FIC documentation including assessments and transition plans.
  • Prepare capability submissions, executive briefs, and decision-support products.
  • Plan and schedule FIC requirements across the capability lifecycle.
  • Analyse capability requirements to identify risks, gaps, impacts and opportunities.
  • Advise on FIC integration, capability development and risk mitigation.
  • Support project cost models and acquisition planning activities.
  • Lead governance activities including agendas and records of decision.
  • Support assurance and contestability activities to align with Defence requirements.

Tell me about this role:

We are seeking a Fundamental Inputs to Capability (FIC) Specialist to support the planning, coordination, and integration of capability outcomes within a complex Defence environment. Working within Army Headquarters, you will contribute to critical capability decisions by coordinating FIC activities that support acquisition, governance, and capability realisation objectives. Collaborating with Defence stakeholders, project teams, and subject matter experts, you will help shape capability requirements, manage key dependencies, and support informed decision-making throughout the capability lifecycle. This is an opportunity to work in a strategically important role and contribute to capability outcomes that support Australia's national security.

What will I be doing day to day?
  • Coordinate and deliver Fundamental Inputs to Capability (FIC) activities across a complex Defence capability program.
  • Engage with Army, Defence, and external stakeholders to manage FIC requirements, dependencies, and deliverables.
  • Develop and maintain FIC-related documentation, including assessments, management plans, integration requirements, and transition plans.
  • Support the preparation of capability submissions, executive briefs, presentations, and decision-support products.
  • Coordinate the identification, planning, costing, and scheduling of FIC requirements across the capability lifecycle.
  • Analyse capability requirements to identify risks, gaps, impacts, and opportunities.
  • Provide advice on FIC integration, capability development, and risk mitigation strategies.
  • Contribute to the development and maintenance of project cost models and acquisition planning activities.
  • Lead and coordinate governance activities, including agendas, governance papers, records of decision, and action tracking.
  • Support assurance, review, and contestability activities to ensure capability outcomes align with Defence requirements and government expectations.
What Sort of Skills Do I Need?

Location: Canberra, ACT

Weekly Hours: 40 hours per week (Monday-Friday), onsite with flexibility in line with client requirements.
