Job summary

Phillip Island Winery is seeking an experienced Trade Waiter to join our front-of-house team in Ventnor, Victoria. You’ll welcome guests, explain the menu, and recommend wines to accompany meals, coordinating with kitchen and bar staff for a seamless dining experience.

The ideal candidate has hospitality service experience, strong customer service and wine knowledge, and excellent communication skills. An AQF Certificate III in Hospitality or equivalent, or substantial Australian work

  • Experience in a restaurant, winery, cellar door or premium hospitality environment.
  • Knowledge of food and wine with the ability to explain and pair.
  • Excellent customer service and communication skills.
  • Ability to work with front-of-house, kitchen and bar teams.
  • AQF Certificate III in Hospitality or equivalent, or 12+ months relevant work experience.

Responsibilities

  • Welcome guests, assist with reservations and provide menus and beverage lists.
  • Explain food and beverage options and make wine recommendations.
  • Take orders accurately and relay to kitchen and bar teams.
  • Discuss dietary requirements and communicate any special requests.
  • Serve food and beverages to standard and keep dining areas clean and organized.
  • Process payments accurately via the POS system.
  • Assist with other front-of-house duties as required.

Phillip Island Winery is looking for an experienced Trade Waiter to join our front-of-house team.

Located in Ventnor, Phillip Island Winery brings together quality wine, seasonal food and relaxed hospitality in a beautiful rural setting. Our restaurant welcomes locals and visitors for everything from casual lunches to events and special celebrations.

About the role

This is a full-time position for an experienced hospitality professional who takes pride in providing knowledgeable, attentive service.

You’ll work closely with our kitchen, bar and front-of-house teams to create a seamless dining experience for our guests - from welcoming them and explaining the menu to recommending wines and overseeing their service.

What you’ll do

Welcome guests, assist with reservations and provide menus and beverage lists.

Explain available food and drink options and make knowledgeable recommendations.

Recommend wines to complement guests’ menu selections.

Take orders accurately and communicate them clearly to the kitchen and bar teams.

Discuss dietary requirements and food allergies with guests and ensure special requirements are communicated to the kitchen.

Serve food and beverages in line with our service and presentation standards.

Open and pour wine, prepare other beverages and assist with basic bar and cellar duties when required.

Prepare, arrange and maintain dining tables before and during service.

Monitor tables, clear used plates and glassware, replenish beverages and maintain clean, organised dining areas.

Process customer payments accurately through the point-of-sale system.

Assist with other front-of-house responsibilities as required.

What you’ll bring

Experience in a restaurant, winery, cellar door or other premium hospitality environment.

Good food and wine knowledge, with the confidence to explain menu items and recommend suitable wine pairings.

Strong customer service skills and a professional, attentive approach.

Clear communication skills and the ability to work effectively with both front-of-house and kitchen teams.

Good organisation and attention to detail during busy services.

An Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF) Certificate III in Hospitality (Restaurant Front of House), or equivalent qualification as assessed by a registered training organisation (RTO), and at least 12 months relevant work experience (Note: 12 months relevant work experience is additional to job placements during course of study) or

At least 18 months’ relevant work experience in Australia on a temporary visa, or

At least two (2) years relevant experience.
