Job summary

Maroondah City Council is seeking a motivated Horticultural and Playground Maintenance Assistant to join the Parks and Open Space team in Croydon.

You will assist with playground inspection, asset surveillance and routine horticultural tasks such as tree planting and landscaping across parks, gardens, reserves, and roadsides. The role requires planning, computer-based record keeping, and effective communication with contractors and the public.

Qualifications

• Year 10/11 or Vocational Training with certificates.
• Interest or experience in horticulture, land management, parks or playground maintenance.
• Current Victorian Driver Licence.
• Current Victorian Working with Children Check (Employee).
• Experience using computers to maintain accurate records.
• Experience using tools, power tools and equipment for playground, open space and horticultural maintenance.
• Ability to plan and organise day-to-day work with minimal supervision.
• Excellent communication with internal and external stakeholders.
• Experience in trades assistant/handyman environment or related qualification highly regarded.
• Medium Rigid Truck Licence desirable but not essential.

Responsibilities

• Assist playground inspections and asset surveillance.
• Maintain accurate, auditable electronic records to support playground programs.
• Assist with inspection, installation, repair and maintenance of playgrounds.
• Participate in horticultural activities including tree planting and landscaping of parks and reserves.
• Support maintenance requests and routine upkeep of facilities and open spaces.
