Job summary

BLACKROC is partnering with a large Queensland Government department to recruit five Full Stack Developers for a Brisbane-based role. You’ll design, develop, test and support modern cloud-native applications across the front-end, back-end, integration and infrastructure layers.

You will build React and TypeScript interfaces, Python services behind them, and manage the AWS infrastructure with end-to-end ownership from design through production support.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of software development experience with 2+ years AWS cloud development.
• Strong experience with React, TypeScript and modern JavaScript.
• Experience building RESTful APIs in AWS using OpenAPI and contract-first development.
• Backend services in Python and microservices architectures.
• Hands-on AWS capabilities: Lambda, API Gateway, DynamoDB, RDS, S3, CloudWatch, IAM.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop and maintain web applications with React and TypeScript.
• Develop cloud-native backend services and microservices.
• Create RESTful APIs using OpenAPI specifications.
• Implement API and event-driven integration patterns.

Full Stack Developer

Duration: Initial 12 month contract plus possible extensions
Location: Brisbane
Work Arrangements: 2 days work from home

Company Overview

BLACKROC is partnering with a large Queensland Government department to recruit five Full Stack Developers.

Role Purpose

You’ll design, develop, test and support modern cloud-native applications across the front-end, back-end, integration and infrastructure layers. This is genuine end-to-end work on a well-funded programme, building React and TypeScript interfaces, Python services behind them, and the AWS infrastructure it all runs on, with real ownership from solution design through to production support.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop and maintain web applications using React and TypeScript
• Develop and support cloud-native backend services and microservices
• Design, develop and integrate RESTful APIs using OpenAPI specifications
• Implement synchronous and asynchronous integration using API and event-driven patterns
• Build and maintain Infrastructure as Code using AWS CDK
• Design and implement scalable relational and NoSQL data solutions
• Implement validation, exception handling, audit logging, monitoring and observability
• Contribute to CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, quality assurance and security practices
• Participate in solution design, code reviews and architecture discussions
• Produce technical documentation and provide knowledge transfer to the team

Required Skills & Experience

• Minimum 5+ years software development experience, with 2+ years hands‑on AWS cloud development
• Strong experience with React, TypeScript and modern JavaScript, including modern CSS and component libraries
• Strong experience developing and maintaining RESTful APIs in an AWS environment, with OpenAPI and contract‑first development
• Experience developing backend services using Python
• Experience with microservices, distributed systems and event‑driven solutions
• Strong hands‑on AWS: Lambda, API Gateway, EventBridge, SQS, SNS, S3, DynamoDB, Aurora PostgreSQL (RDS), IAM, Secrets Manager, Parameter Store and CloudWatch
• Experience implementing OAuth 2.0, OIDC and JWT‑based authentication
• Experience with AWS CDK Infrastructure as Code and GitHub Actions or similar CI/CD tooling
• Strong Git, testing, debugging and troubleshooting skills
• Demonstrated experience delivering end‑to‑end solutions in Agile delivery environments

Preferred Skills & Qualifications

• Experience with observability, monitoring, structured logging and distributed tracing
• Experience designing highly available, scalable and resilient cloud‑native solutions
• Experience working in enterprise or government environments
• AWS Certifications (Developer or higher)
