Job summary

OpenAI is seeking Forward Deployed Engineers in Sydney to lead complex deployments of frontier models in production. You will own discovery, scoping, system design, build, and rollout while partnering with customer engineering and domain teams.

Expect to measure success by production adoption and impact on workflows, collaborating with product, research, partnerships, GRC, security, and GTM teams. This role offers relocation assistance and requires up to 50% travel.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of engineering or technical deployment experience that includes customer-facing work.
• Experience scoping and delivering complex systems in fast-moving or ambiguous environments.
• Ability to write and review production-grade code across frontend and backend using Python/JavaScript.

Responsibilities

• Own technical delivery across multiple deployments from prototype to production.
• Build full-stack systems delivering customer value and enabling learning.
• Embed with customer teams, understand needs, and guide adoption of what you build.
• Scope work, sequence delivery, and remove blockers early.
• Make trade-offs between scope, speed, and quality and adjust plans to protect delivery.
• Contribute directly in the code when needed to progress.
