Job summary

Lindsay Australia is expanding a new rail freight operation in North Queensland. This role will be part of a growing team, responsible for processing freight movements and maintaining accurate records from day one.

You will liaise with train crews, dispatch teams and customers, ensuring compliance with CoR and safety guidelines while delivering reliable service across Mackay to Cairns.

Qualifications

• Excellent data entry and documentation skills.
• Strong communication and teamwork.

• Willingness to learn new systems.
• Experience in rail, freight, transport, logistics or administration is highly regarded.
• Knowledge of CoR and rail safety principles is desirable.

Responsibilities

• Process incoming and outgoing rail freight accurately.
• Prepare train manifests and dispatch records.
• Maintain freight tracking and shipment records.
• Coordinate movement of rail freight for safe operations.
• Liaise with train crews, terminal staff and controllers.
• Respond to customer enquiries with updates on movements.
• Resolve discrepancies in freight documentation.
• Support daily administrative tasks and maintain records.
• Ensure compliance with rail safety and regulations.
• Assist with loading, unloading and scheduling to meet deadlines.

What’s The Role

• Processing incoming and outgoing rail freight accurately and efficiently
• Preparing and managing train manifests, consignment documentation and dispatch records
• Maintaining and updating freight tracking information and shipment records
• Coordinating the movement of rail freight to support safe and efficient operations
• Liaising with train crews, terminal staff, warehouse teams and operational controllers
• Responding to customer enquiries and providing updates on freight movements
• Identifying and resolving discrepancies in freight documentation and consignment details
• Supporting daily administrative tasks and maintaining accurate operational records
• Ensuring compliance with rail safety requirements, transport regulations and company procedures
• Assisting with the coordination of loading, unloading and scheduling activities to meet operational deadlines

What You’ll Bring

• Excellent attention to detail with strong data entry and documentation skills
• Effective communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with operational teams
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage competing priorities
• Confidence using computer systems and learning new technologies
• A proactive attitude with the ability to take ownership and solve problems
• Previous experience in rail, freight, transport, logistics or administration (highly regarded)
• Strong customer service skills with the ability to build positive working relationships
• Previous experience in rail, transport, freight, logistics or administration (preferred)
• Ability to work rotating shifts, weekends or public holidays if required
• Experience using rail or freight management systems
• Knowledge of rail freight operations and terminal procedures
• Understanding of Chain of Responsibility (CoR) requirements and rail safety principles
• Familiarity with transport scheduling, dispatch and freight documentation processes
