Job summary

ACSO is seeking a dedicated Forensic Case Worker to deliver pre-release and post-release support at Lockyer Valley Correctional Centre in Gatton. You will work intensively with prisons and courts to help clients reintegrate into the community, including record keeping and outreach to at-risk individuals.

The role requires a Diploma-level qualification and strong communication, facilitation, and advocacy skills.

Qualifications

• Minimum Diploma level qualification in an area relevant to the program being overseen (Social Work, Justice, Psychology, Community Services and/or Welfare Studies).
• Excellent written and verbal communications skills.
• Competence in using PC-based office applications (Microsoft Office) and internet.

Responsibilities

• Deliver pre- and post-release support to allocated clients in collaboration with prisons, courts and community corrections.
• Record keeping, data entry and case noting; provide assertive outreach to at-risk cohorts.

About the program

ACSO's Men's Reintegration Service program is a state-wide program delivering re-entry services to people in prison and the community in partnership with Queensland Corrective Service (QCS). The program provides support in collaboration with the client and focusing on resolving any barriers pertaining to their return to the community, the service will also promote a successful reintegration journey. The service delivery model comprises of intense pre-release support, throughcare post-release support for up to six months, and after-hours services, to achieve successful outcomes for the people we support.

About the position

Our Forensic Case Workers are responsible for delivering pre- and post- release support to their allocated clients and will work intensively with prisons, courts and where applicable, with community corrections to successfully reintegrate clients. The Forensic Case Worker will be responsible for record keeping (including data entry and case-noting) and providing assertive outreach and interventions to at-risk and vulnerable cohorts.

This position is located at Lockyer Valley Correctional Centre and will be responsible for supporting pre-release clients. A key component of this role is the delivery and facilitation of psychosocial group sessions to male clients within a custodial setting.

What we're looking for

• Minimum Diploma level qualification in an area relevant to the program being overseen (Social Work, Justice, Psychology, Community Services and/or Welfare Studies), or;
• Excellent written and verbal communications skills
• Confidence in facilitating information sessions in a group setting, is preferred
• Competence in using PC-based office applications (i.e. Microsoft Office) and internet
• Experience developing support plans and goal attainment strategies
• Strong negotiation, conflict resolution and mediation skills
• Demonstrated ability to advocate on behalf of the client cohort specific to the program
• Ability to build positive relationships and communicate with people of diverse backgrounds and abilities
• Knowledge and competency in casework practices
• Demonstrated capacity to work flexibly, possess the ability to manage competing demands, and able to effectively set boundaries and limits where required
• Ability to obtain (and maintain) the relevant clearances required to enter correctional based facilities and access external justice related systems.
• An extensive background working with Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander people will be highly regarded.

As ACSO is an NDIS provider, the successful candidate must hold an NDIS Worker Screening Check Clearance before they commence employment in this position.
