Job summary

Downer is seeking an experienced Foreman to join our Melbourne Pavements team and lead an asphalt crew delivering road infrastructure projects across Victoria. Based out of Somerton, this field leadership role ensures works are delivered safely, efficiently and to the highest standard.

As Foreman you will supervise crews, plan daily activities, and collaborate with clients and subcontractors to drive safety, productivity and quality.

Qualifications

• Proven experience as Foreman or supervisor in asphalt/road surfacing.
• Strong leadership and people-management skills.
• Solid knowledge of safety legislation and quality standards.

Responsibilities

• Lead and supervise asphalt and road surfacing crews across multiple project sites
• Promote and maintain a Zero Harm safety culture
• Plan and coordinate daily work activities and resources
• Conduct toolbox talks, site inductions and safety inspections
• Monitor productivity, quality and project delivery outcomes
• Coach, mentor and develop team members
• Liaise with clients, subcontractors and internal stakeholders
• Ensure compliance with safety, environmental and quality requirements
• Drive continuous improvement initiatives and operational efficiencies
• Support the successful delivery of major infrastructure projects across Victoria

We are currently seeking an experienced Foreman to join our Melbourne Pavements team and lead a high-performing asphalt crew delivering critical road infrastructure projects across Victoria.

Based out of Somerton, this is a key field leadership position responsible for leading asphalt surfacing crews and ensuring works are delivered safely, efficiently and to the highest standard. You will play an integral role in delivering a broad range of projects, including supporting major infrastructure programs across Melbourne.

The Opportunity

As Foreman, you will be responsible for supervising asphalt and road surfacing operations, coordinating daily activities and leading crews in the field. Working closely with operational leaders and project stakeholders, you will drive safety, productivity and quality outcomes while fostering a positive team culture.

About You

• Proven experience as a Foreman, Supervisor or similar leadership role within asphalt, road surfacing or civil construction
• Strong leadership and people management skills
• Sound understanding of safety legislation, quality standards and industry requirements
• Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills
• Strong planning, organisational and problem-solving abilities
• Competent computer skills including Microsoft Office
• Ability to build and lead high-performing teams
• Commitment to safety, quality and continuous improvement
