Job summary

Innovative Plastic Solutions Pty Ltd, located in Melbourne, is seeking a permanent full-time operator to manufacture and repair tools, dies, jigs, fixtures and other precision parts to tight tolerances. You will study drawings, measure stock, shape material with machine tools and inspect finished parts using precision instruments.

Required AQF Certificate III or IV with on‑the‑job training; 3+ years experience may substitute qualifications.

Qualifications

• Study drawings and specifications to determine dimensions and tolerances.
• Measuring and marking out metal stock and castings using gauges.
• Shaping metal and wood stock using machine tools.
• Checking accuracy of manufactured articles and finished patterns to tight tolerances.

Responsibilities

• Applying protective finishes to patterns and painting pattern sections.
• Assembling pattern sections and shaping work pieces to specified finish.
• Pouring and spreading materials into moulds and over models of patterns; building laminations of fibreglass cloth and plastic resin.
• Repairing broken patterns and correcting patterns to compensate for casting defects.
• Constructing templates for layout and inspection.
