Job summary

Smokin Haulage in Craigieburn, Melbourne, is seeking a dedicated Fleet Manager to maximise delivery fleet performance through route planning and data analysis. This hands-on role drives measurable operational wins by optimizing routes, schedules and fleet utilization, while leading driver and contractor coordination.

Minimum 1–2 years in fleet or transport operations; AQF Cert III/IV required, Diploma preferred.

smokin haulage pty ltd The role of a Full-time Fleet Manager is responsible for maximising the performance and utilisation of the delivery fleet through effective route planning, scheduling, data analysis and continuous improvement. In this role, you will manage how our fleet moves, not just the vehicles themselves.

You will use data and driver insights to build efficient routes and elevate delivery performance. This is a hands-on position where your analysis leads directly to measurable operational wins.

Task & responsibilities

Task & Key responsibilities will include: Planning, building and continually optimising delivery routes to maximise fleet utilisation and efficiency. Allocating and optimising delivery runs and schedules in conjunction with Transport and Sales Planning.

Oversee fleet maintenance and vehicle availability. Manage drivers and contractors to support operational performance. Manage fleet compliance and regulatory requirements.

Monitoring routing and fleet performance and responding to changing demand, breakdowns and urgent requirements. Analysing fleet and delivery data to identify trends, bottlenecks and improvement opportunities. Monitoring and reporting on key measures including DIFOTIS (Delivery In Full, On Time, In Spec), fleet utilisation and cost per delivery.

Developing and maintaining fleet performance dashboards and operational reporting. Using routing and fleet management systems to improve delivery performance and efficiency.

Gathering driver feedback on routes, customers and delivery locations and translating this into practical improvements. Driving continuous improvement across routing, loading, scheduling and delivery processes. Working closely with Transport, Warehouse, Customer Service, Sales Planning, Inventory and other operational stakeholders.

Ensuring fleet planning and operational practices comply with relevant safety, regulatory and company requirements.

Qualification & experience

To be successful in this role, you will have: Minimum 1-2 years of full-time experience in fleet management, transport operations, logistics, distribution or a closely related field.

Minimum AQF level qualification in the relevant stream of Cert III, IV - required and Dilpma level qualification - preferred. Strong analytical skills and the ability to use operational data to drive improvements. Experience with transport management, routing or fleet optimisation systems.

Strong Microsoft Excel and reporting skills. An understanding of fleet utilisation, delivery performance and transport operating costs. Strong planning, organisational and problem solving skills.

Effective communication and stakeholder management skills. A practical, continuous improvement and results focused approach.
