Job summary

Redpath is seeking a Leading Hand Diesel Fitter for an underground mining project in NSW. You will lead a maintenance team, perform scheduled and breakdown maintenance on Sandvik equipment, diagnose faults, and drive safe, reliable operations on a 14/14 roster.

Applicants should hold an Australian recognised trade qualification, with prior supervisory experience in underground mining and strong leadership capabilities. FIFO/DIDO options apply from various Australian locations.

Qualifications

• Australian recognised trade qualification as a Diesel Fitter or equivalent.
• Experience as Leading Hand/Senior Diesel Fitter or Supervisory Tradesperson in underground mining.
• Strong fault-finding and diagnostic skills on heavy mobile plant.

Responsibilities

• Lead and supervise a maintenance team.
• Perform scheduled and breakdown maintenance on underground equipment (Sandvik).
• Diagnose mechanical, hydraulic and auto electrical faults.
• Coordinate daily maintenance to minimise downtime.
• Ensure safe, high-quality work; mentor apprentices and tradespeople.
• Maintain accurate maintenance records.

Responsibilities

ABOUT THE ROLE

Reporting to the Maintenance Superintendent, the Leading Hand Diesel Fitter will coordinate and participate in the maintenance, servicing, diagnostics, and repairs of underground mobile mining equipment while providing day-to-day leadership to the maintenance team.

• Leading and supervising a team of maintenance personnel
• Performing scheduled and breakdown maintenance on Sandvik underground equipment
• Diagnosing and rectifying mechanical, hydraulic, and auto electrical faults
• Coordinating daily maintenance activities to minimise equipment downtime
• Ensuring all maintenance work is completed safely and to a high standard
• Providing technical guidance and mentoring to tradespeople and apprentices
• Maintaining accurate maintenance records and documentation
• Contributing to continuous improvement initiatives across the maintenance department
• Promoting and maintaining Redpath's strong safety culture

Qualifications

ABOUT YOU

To be successful in this role, you will possess:

• Australian recognised Trade Qualification as a Diesel Fitter, Heavy Vehicle Mechanic, Plant Mechanic, or equivalent
• Previous experience as a Leading Hand, Senior Diesel Fitter, or Supervisory Tradesperson within underground mining
• Strong experience maintaining Sandvik underground mobile equipment
• Proven fault-finding and diagnostic skills across heavy mobile plant
• Sound understanding of underground mining operations
• Strong leadership, communication, and team management skills
• Current Australian driver's licence
• Ability to work effectively within a 14/14 roster arrangement
• Commitment to safety, quality, and operational excellence

• Underground mining experience
• HR Driver's Licence
• High Risk Work Licences
• Working at Heights certification
• Confined Space Entry certification
• First Aid qualifications
