Job summary

The Australian Department of Infrastructure and Regional Development is seeking APS6 Senior Program & Policy Officers for Northern Australia & Local Government with a First Nations focus. Roles are ongoing, full-time or part-time, based in Cairns, Darwin, Perth, or Townsville, with hybrid work options and a merit pool for future vacancies.

Responsibilities include governance administration, policy analysis, intergovernmental engagement, and reporting.

Qualifications

• Affirmative measure vacancy open only to Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people.
• Ability to manage multiple shifting priorities and deliver high-quality outputs under tight timeframes.

Responsibilities

• Financial and governance administration: manage the $7B NAIF appropriation, authorise payments, monitor the risk register.
• Policy analysis and advice: review projects against priorities, draft updates, and conduct research for the Indigenous Reference Group.
• Intergovernmental engagement: provide secretariat and coordination for the Northern Australia Working Group and jurisdictions.
• Reporting and coordination: draft inputs for the Northern Australia Action Plan Annual Progress Report and triage ministerial correspondence.
