Job summary

Interrelate is seeking a First Nations Community Development Worker to join our Wiradjuri country team in Dubbo. The role requires cultural safety, strong relationship-building, and travel to Orange and surrounds.

It is a fixed-term contract until 30 June 2028, 37.5 hours a week, with an hourly rate of $57.72 plus superannuation and salary packaging options. You will work with Elders, families and community members to deliver culturally informed programs, support services, and events that

Qualifications

• Aboriginality or Torres Strait Islander background as a genuine occupational qualification.
• Certificate IV in Community Development is highly desirable.
• Experience in community work with First Nations families and children.
• Experience in case management or willingness to develop these skills.
• Understanding of social issues affecting First Nations communities in the local region.
• Experience engaging with First Nations communities and relevant stakeholders.
• Understanding of family separation impacts on First Nations children.

ABOUT THE ROLE:

We're pleased to offer an opportunity for a First Nations Community Development Worker to join our team on Wiradjuri country.

This role is grounded in respect, collaboration, and cultural safety. You'll use your strong relationship building skills to connect with Elders, families, and community members, fostering partnerships that support access to our services in ways that feel culturally safe and welcoming.

You’ll work alongside a supportive regional team to deliver culturally informed programs that empower First Nations families through life’s transitions. Your insights will also help guide our staff in acknowledging Country meaningfully and deepening their understanding of First Nations history and social impacts faced by First Nations People.

KEY DUTIES WILL INCLUDE:

Assist First Nations people to access Interrelate services through creating good working relationships, establishing referral pathways, developing innovative strategies, networking, promotion and enhancement of Interrelate Services.

Identify community needs for building stronger family relationships including support after relationship breakdowns, supporting parenting arrangements, counselling for couples and individuals, youth mental health support, family group conferencing and many more.

Organise group seminars, community events, forums, expo’s and workshops to support First Nations families through the challenges of their relationships.

Facilitate Aboriginal Building Connections training for the community.

POSITION LOCATION AND TRAVEL

This position will be based in Dubbo with a requirement for some travel to Orange and surrounding communities. Please note that you may also be required to work some after hours and weekends to attend community events from time to time.

This is a Fixed-term contract until 30 June 2028, working 37.5 hours per week.

The hourly rate for this position is $57.72 per hour, plus superannuation and access to salary packaging.

ROLE REQUIREMENTS:

Aboriginality or Torres Strait Islander background (Interrelate considers that being Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander is a genuine occupational qualification under section 14 of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1977, NSW)

Certificate IV in Community Development is highly desirable

Experience in community work / family mediation; particularly with First Nations Families and children

Experience in Case Management or willingness to develop these skills

Understanding of social issues affecting First Nations communities within the local region

Experience in consulting with the First Nations community and relevant stakeholders

Understanding of the impact of family separation and breakdown on children with particular emphasis within First Nations families

Experience in developing community programs or willingness to develop skills in creating and evaluating programs and services

Experience in facilitating group sessions, project management and organising community events
