Job summary

Sirdar Steel Pty Ltd is seeking a Welder (First Class) to support its Somerton, Victoria operations. The role involves reading drawings, selecting materials and performing MIG, TIG and arc welds on structural steel components.

Based in Somerton, the successful candidate will maintain welding quality, adhere to safety standards and contribute to fabrication projects for builders and commercial clients.

Qualifications

• Minimum 12 months' welding experience in structural steel.
• AQF Certificate III or IV in a relevant engineering trade, or 3+ years' related experience.
• Experience MIG, TIG and arc welding on structural steel and fabricated components.
• Ability to interpret engineering drawings, welding symbols and fabrication specs.
• Practical experience operating welding equipment, grinders and cutting tools in steel fabrication.
• Knowledge of weld inspection methods and quality standards for structural steel.
• Commitment to workplace safety practices and PPE usage.

Responsibilities

• Interpret drawings, blueprints and specifications to determine welding needs.
• Measure and prepare steel sections, plates and materials.
• Cut metal components using grinders, torches, saws and other tools.
• Perform MIG, TIG and arc welding to join structural steel.
• Position and secure components with clamps, jigs and measuring devices.
• Weld assemblies to project specs and inspect weld quality.
• Prepare surfaces and finish welds to required standards.
• Operate equipment safely within workshop environment.
• Identify and rectify welding defects and maintain dimensions.
