Job summary

Fire & Rescue NSW is seeking a hands-on Fire Vehicle Repairer to maintain and repair emergency vehicles and ladder trucks across sites. You will contribute to a reliable fleet essential for frontline firefighters and community safety.

Role involves travel, rostered shifts, overtime and the chance to expand skills through industry training; HR licence support may be provided and a competitive salary with allowances applies.

Qualifications

• Experience in the repair and maintenance of light or heavy vehicles.
• Team player who likes to solve problems and is willing to learn.
• Motor Vehicle Trade Persons Certificate with HR licence willingness to obtain.
• Hold or willingness to obtain an HR driving licence; FRNSW will fund this licence if needed.
• Experience in Hydraulic systems and Pumps.
• Air conditioning licence.

Responsibilities

• Maintain, diagnose and repair all vehicles and ladder trucks to meet operational and safety standards.
• Work to improve and develop specialised systems and enhancements.
• Utilise FRNSW systems to monitor scheduled servicing and entry data for repairs.

Job description

Fire Vehicle Repairers - Auto Electricians, Motor Mechanics and Body Shop Technicians

• Ongoing, Full Time (9-day fortnight)
• Salary: $1,632.10 per week (Level 1) to $1,958.50 per week (Level 4), plus a range of allowances including tool, and heavy vehicle inspectors.
• Regular overtime arrangements available (to support a 24-hour, 7 days a week response capability)

About the role

In this hands‑on fleet role, your work directly supports our firefighters, ensuring they have the reliable vehicles they need to protect the community. You'll travel to various sites, seeing firsthand the difference you make. The genuine appreciation from the community is truly rewarding.

• Maintain, diagnose and repair all vehicles and ladder trucks in operation at FRNSW to meet the operational and safety standards required for emergency services.
• Work to improve and develop specialised systems and enhancements.
• Utilise FRNSW systems to monitor scheduled servicing and for the entry of data associated with specific repairs.

About you

• Experience in the repair and maintenance of light or heavy vehicles.
• Team player who likes to solve problems and has a willingness to learn.
• Relevant Mechanical or Auto Electrical or Body Work (Body Building, Panel Beating, Sheet Metal work or Boiler Maker) with Motor Vehicle Trade Persons Certificate.
• Hold or willingness to obtain a HR driving licence. Fire & Rescue NSW will fund this licence for the successful applicant, if needed.
• Note: You will be required to work on a roster, which includes a mix of shift work, overtime, on-call and some interstate travel. You will be given the opportunity to expand your skills with relevant, industry‑based training.
