Job summary

Building Services Engineers Pty Ltd is seeking a mid to senior Fire Protection Engineer in Brisbane to deliver fire protection design from concept through construction. You’ll join a close-knit team, collaborate across retail, hospitality, commercial and government projects, and mentor junior engineers in a national practice.

With 6+ years’ Australian building services experience and a solid grasp of NCC, NFPA and Australian Standards, you’ll drive design quality while coordinating with clients

Qualifications

• 6+ years of experience in Australian building services, ideally in consulting.
• Solid experience delivering wet and dry fire protection projects from concept through to construction completion.
• A tertiary qualification in engineering.
• RPEQ registered or working towards.
• Clear knowledge of the National Construction Code, NFPA and Australian Standards for fire protection systems.
• Experience coordinating multidisciplinary projects and managing client expectations.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Mentoring and coaching junior engineers and designers.
• Experience with Revit, AutoCAD, BIM 360, Hyena and Microsoft Office.

Responsibilities

• Deliver detailed fire protection design for wet and dry systems, including sprinklers, hydrants, and detection and alarm systems.
• Involve across all project phases from tender to construction support.
• Carry out design calculations and briefs, meeting project timelines and budgets.
• Engage with clients throughout the lifecycle, including meetings and site inspections.
• Contribute to multidisciplinary coordination and project management.
• Handle project administration, scheduling, estimating and reporting.
• Solve complex design challenges and deliver strong client solutions.
• Ensure designs meet codes, standards and quality requirements.
• Build and maintain relationships with clients and teams.
• Mentor junior engineers and designers and grow technical knowledge.

Job description

Grow your fire protection career on major projects with a 100% Australian-owned consultancy that has been delivering building services since 1994.

The role

Our Brisbane hub is growing. We are looking for a mid to senior level Fire Protection Engineer to deliver fire protection design from concept through to construction. You will work in a close-knit multidisciplinary team, backed by BSE’s national practice.

You will work across retail, hospitality, commercial, residential, seniors living and government projects. Some of our BSE QLD work includes 450 Queen Street Redevelopment, Windsor Inner North Secondary School, Moreton Bay & Caloundra TAFE Centres of Excellence, Vila at East Village, Cannon Hill, Rio Tinto Fitout, Midtown, QIC Fitout and the Elysium Noosa Resort.

What you will do

• Deliver detailed fire protection design for wet and dry systems, including sprinklers, hydrants, and detection and alarm systems.
• Be involved across all project phases, from tender preparation and design delivery through to construction support.

• Engage directly with clients throughout the project lifecycle, including client and design meetings and site inspections.
• Contribute to multidisciplinary team coordination and project management.

• Make sure designs meet codes, standards, project and quality requirements.
• Build and maintain strong working relationships with clients, project teams and internal teams.
• Provide hands-on mentoring and coaching to junior engineers and designers.
• Maintain and grow your technical knowledge in fire protection.

What you will bring

• 6+ years’ experience in Australian building services, ideally in consulting.
• Solid experience delivering wet and dry fire protection projects from concept through to construction completion.
• A tertiary qualification in engineering.
• RPEQ registered or working towards
• Clear applied knowledge of the National Construction Code, NFPA and Australian Standards for fire sprinkler, hydrant, and detection and alarm systems, and fire authority requirements.
• Experience coordinating multidisciplinary projects, including managing client expectations.
• Clear verbal and written communication skills.
• The ability to build and maintain strong relationships with clients, project teams and internal teams.
• A passion for mentoring and coaching junior engineers and designers.
• Experience with Revit, AutoCAD, BIM 360, Hyena and Microsoft Office, including OneDrive. Revit design and modelling experience is highly regarded.
