Job summary

Protech Group is seeking motivated Field Officers to join the Fire Ant Eradication Program with Biosecurity Queensland, operating from the Burleigh Heads and Canungra Depot. The role begins on 27 October 2026 and offers an outdoor, active position protecting Queensland from invasive pests.

We offer an hourly pay rate of $36+, a 9-day fortnight, uniforms and PPE, and a company vehicle for work hours. You will conduct surveillance, apply bait, record data, and drive between sites while engaging

Qualifications

• Hold a current open driver’s license.
• Be physically fit and able to walk long distances in varied terrain.
• Experience in landscaping, agriculture, arboriculture, conservation, land management, civil works or other outdoor roles.

Responsibilities

• Conduct visual surveillance for fire ants and other pests.
• Apply bait treatments in targeted areas.
• Record field observations and collect accurate data.
• Complete daily reports and maintain records.
• Drive company vehicle between locations.
• Engage with the public and provide information when required.

About the role

Your day-to-day responsibilities will include:

• Conducting visual surveillance for fire ants and other insect pests
• Applying bait treatments in targeted areas
• Recording field observations and collecting accurate data
• Completing daily reports and record-keeping activities
• Driving a company vehicle between assigned locations
• Engaging with members of the public and providing information when required

What we’re looking for

Successful candidates will:

• Hold a current open driver’s licence
• Enjoy working outdoors in all weather conditions
• Have experience in landscaping, agriculture, arboriculture, conservation, land management, civil works, or other physically active outdoor roles
• Be physically fit and capable of walking up to 10-15km per day across varied and challenging terrain
• Have strong communication and customer service skills
• Work well within a team environment
• Be committed to safety and following procedures

Pre-employment requirements

• Ability to pass a Drug & Alcohol Screening
• Ability to obtain and pass a National Police Check
