Job description

Financial Controller - Registered RSL Club | $140K-$170K

Frontline Recruitment Group - Sydney Northern Suburbs NSW

About the Role

An established registered RSL Club is seeking an experienced Financial Controller to take ownership of its finance function and play a key role in the organisation's senior leadership team.

This is a significant appointment and the most senior financial position within the Club. With no CFO sitting above the role, you'll have broad responsibility for financial management, commercial performance, governance and strategic financial planning, working closely with the senior leadership team to guide the Club's ongoing success.

You'll oversee the full finance operation, leading a team across accounting, payroll, accounts payable and receivable, while ensuring the Club maintains strong financial controls, accurate reporting and sound financial governance. Beyond the day-to-day, you'll provide meaningful commercial insight to support business decisions, oversee budgeting and forecasting, manage external audit and taxation requirements, and play a key role in the financial oversight of a proposed acquisition or amalgamation.

This is an opportunity for an accomplished finance professional to take genuine ownership of a complex organisation's financial operations and have a direct influence on its future direction.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead and manage the Club's overall finance function, providing financial leadership across its operations.
  • Prepare and present accurate monthly management accounts, financial reports and Board-level reporting.
  • Oversee annual budgets, financial forecasts, cash flow management and longer-term financial planning.
  • Provide commercial analysis and financial advice to support strategic decisions, operational performance and business improvement.
  • Lead, develop and manage the finance team, including accounting, payroll, accounts payable and receivable.
  • Maintain robust financial controls, reporting processes, policies and systems.
  • Oversee statutory reporting, taxation, payroll obligations and financial compliance relevant to the Club.
  • Coordinate external audit, accounting and governance functions, ensuring timely and accurate outcomes.
  • Provide financial oversight, analysis and support throughout acquisition or amalgamation activity, including due diligence and integration.
  • Monitor financial performance, identify risks and opportunities, and ensure the senior leadership team has clear visibility of the Club's financial position.
About You

You'll be an accomplished finance leader who can balance detailed financial control with broader commercial thinking. Comfortable operating at senior leadership level, you'll have the confidence to challenge, advise and influence while maintaining a hands-on understanding of the finance function.

Ideally, you'll bring:

  • Proven experience as a Financial Controller, Finance Director or senior Finance Manager with responsibility for an entire finance function.
  • Experience leading and developing a finance team across multiple accounting and support functions.
  • Strong financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting and cash flow management capabilities.
  • Demonstrated experience preparing financial reports and presenting commercial insights to executive leadership and/or Boards.
  • A sound understanding of financial governance, internal controls, taxation, statutory reporting and audit requirements.
  • Experience within a complex, multi-site or multi-revenue organisation.
  • Strong commercial acumen, analytical ability and confidence engaging with senior stakeholders.
  • The ability to manage competing priorities while maintaining accuracy, accountability and financial discipline.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Tertiary qualifications in Accounting, Finance, Commerce or a related discipline.
  • CPA or CA qualification, or equivalent professional accreditation.
  • Experience within the registered club, hospitality, gaming, leisure or not-for-profit sectors will be highly regarded.
  • Exposure to acquisitions, amalgamations, financial due diligence or business integration will be advantageous.
The Opportunity
  • $140,000-$170,000 remuneration.
  • Senior leadership team position with significant influence across the organisation.
  • The most senior financial appointment within the Club.
  • Lead and develop an established finance function and team.
  • Play a key role in significant organisational and commercial activity, including acquisition or amalgamation oversight.
  • Opportunity to influence the Club's financial strategy, performance and long-term direction.
