Job summary

Harvey Norman Online Franchisee seeks a hands-on Financial Controller to lead finance and administration for the online business. You will manage monthly reporting, budgeting, forecasting, and financial modelling, partnering with franchisor accounting teams to ensure accurate records and insightful business guidance.

With 5+ years post-CPA/CA experience, you will drive commercial decisions, strengthen controls, and support revenue growth across Harvey Norman Online’s brands from Homebush West.

Responsibilities

The Harvey Norman ® Online Franchisee is the single largest independent Franchisee Business in Australia, and the successful candidate will leverage their extensive skills and financial experience to analyse profitability and business performance and identify areas for revenue growth and profitability.

About the role

Reporting to the Director of Harvey Norman ® Online, the Financial Controller will contribute to the success of Harvey Norman ® Online by taking responsibility of the management and oversight of all accounting and financial reporting operations, including transactional functions such as invoicing, payables and receivable.

As a hands-on Financial Controller, you will lead the Finance and Administration teams and will liaise with Accounting Management of the Franchisor to ensure that the financial records and reports of the Online Franchisee are complete, accurate and comply with relevant accounting standards. You will provide financial and operational data and accounting guidance to the Leadership Teams, acting as a true commercial partner to support informed decision-making, assess profitability, and recommend improvements to enhance and grow financial performance.

Responsibilities include:

• Managing all month-end reporting, including profit & loss and general ledger maintenance.
• Preparation of the annual budget for the Online business, updating forecasts as needed, and analysing actual performance against the budget, last year and revised forecasts, providing explanations for any material discrepancies.
• Developing project-based financial evaluations, including NPV, payback analysis, scenario analysis and business case financial modelling
• Strengthening internal controls, governance frameworks and compliance process to improve financial integrity
• Building strong business partnership and managing and developing key stakeholder relationships
• Analysing the profitability of each business unit, identifying risk and opportunities, and recommending changes to grow revenues and enhance profitability.
• Collaborate on contract negotiations for new agreements, renewals, ensuring favourable commercial terms and compliance
• Influence commercial decision- making by provide strategic financial insights and recommendations
• Ensuring the company adheres to all legal and regulatory requirements and maintains appropriate financial record keeping
• Overseeing and management of monthly supplier statements reconciliation.
  

About you

You will have extensive experience in a chartered accounting firm or a medium to large retail commercial organisation, with a minimum of 5 years post CPA or CA qualification experience. You will have experience in financial processes and accounting transactions of an e-commerce business, along with strong skills in writing financial reports and analytical commentary.

Critical to the success of this role is a commercial mindset, and a willingness to show leadership, curiosity, and a drive to support and contribute to ongoing business performance improvement and growth opportunities.
