Job summary

Fetch Recruitment is assisting a rapidly growing private business in Melbourne’s inner west to appoint a Financial Controller / CFO. This senior finance role partners directly with ownership to drive commercial decision-making and set financial direction across two related entities in residential construction and an adjacent supply business.

You will own day-to-day finance, work with an external accountant, implement robust controls, and deliver strategic insights to support growth.

Qualifications

• Proven experience as a Financial Controller, CFO, or senior finance leader.
• Experience managing finances across multiple related entities/business units.
• Experience working with external accountants/advisors.
• Industry experience in building/construction or manufacturing is highly regarded.
• Ability to provide strategic financial leadership to ownership.

Responsibilities

• Take ownership of day-to-day financial operations and reporting across both entities.
• Support and work alongside the in-office team member managing Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable.
• Drive financial strategy, commercial decision-making and business planning as the business scales.
• Oversee financial management of residential project work within the core business.
• Manage the relationship with the business's external accountant, who will remain engaged for tax, BAS and quarterly strategic reviews.
• Implement financial processes, systems and controls to support continued growth.
• Provide commercial and financial insight directly to ownership to support key decisions.

The Opportunity

Our client is a rapidly growing, privately-owned business based in Melbourne's inner west, operating across manufacturing and residential project work. On the back of strong growth, they're looking to bring on an experienced Financial Controller / CFO to step into a senior finance leadership role — someone who can partner directly with ownership, drive commercial decision-making, and help take the business to its next stage of growth.

This is a genuine opportunity for someone with experience gained in a larger, more structured business to bring that calibre of financial rigour and strategic thinking into a growing, owner-led environment.

The Business Structure

You'll dual-manage finance across two related entities:

• The core business — Residential construction
• A smaller, standalone supply business, operating independently and manufacturing/supplying product to other businesses

Key Responsibilities

• Take ownership of day-to-day financial operations and reporting across both entities
• Support and work alongside the in-office team member managing Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable
• Drive financial strategy, commercial decision-making and business planning as the business scales
• Oversee financial management of residential project work within the core business
• Manage the relationship with the business's external accountant, who will remain engaged for tax, BAS and quarterly strategic reviews
• Implement financial processes, systems and controls to support continued growth
• Provide commercial and financial insight directly to ownership to support key decisions

About You

• Proven experience as a Financial Controller, CFO, or senior finance leader — ideally including time in a larger, more structured business before moving into an SME/owner-operated environment
• Comfortable managing finances across multiple related entities/business units simultaneously
• Strong commercial acumen — able to go beyond reporting and actively help drive the business forward
• Experience working collaboratively alongside external accountants/advisors
• Building/construction or manufacturing industry experience highly regarded
• A genuine "next level" operator — someone who can bring structure, process and strategic thinking to a growing business
