Job summary

ThompsonCook, a fast-growing FMCG start-up in Melbourne, is seeking a hands-on Financial Accountant to support month-end, FP&A and AP/AR in a hybrid CBD fringe environment. You will partner with the Financial Controller, assist cashflow reporting and BAS/GST obligations, and contribute to commercial analysis as the business scales across Australia and New Zealand.

Ideal for a junior accountant ready to step up, with potential to move into Senior Accountant or Finance Manager as the company

Qualifications

• Recent CPA or CA with experience in Business Services Advisory or SME consumer product environments.
• Strong understanding of financial accounting principles.
• Excellent attention to detail and analytical skills.
• Excellent communication with non-finance stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate month-end reporting and reconciliations with supporting documentation.
• Manage Accounts Receivable and Accounts Payable incl. supplier invoices and debtor reconciliations.
• Assist cashflow and sales reporting including weekly sales, margin and channel performance.
• Assist with tax compliance including BAS, GST, PAYG and payroll obligations.
• Provide commercial and analytical support to business units to strengthen Finance partnerships.

The Opportunity

The business is a fast growing start-up in the FMCG/ Retail sector. Since its inception, the business has established deep relationships in the market which has allowed them to expand their distribution networks rapidly. With international expansion in the very near future, we are on the search for a bright accountant attracted to working for a agile start-up who are achieving gradual milestones in Australia and New Zealand. You must be excited to take on a broad accounting role which will encompass supporting the Financial Controller on month-end reporting, accounts payable and receivables, payroll and some financial planning and commercial/ analytical requirements. As the business continues to grow, this role will step up to a Senior Accountant or Finance Manager remit.

The Challenge

Reporting directly to the Financial Controller, your duties will include:

• Co-ordination of the completion of month end including reporting
• Co-ordination of the completion of monthly financial reconciliations including all balance sheet reconciliations together with necessary supporting documentation
• Management of Accounts Receivable and Accounts Payable including processing supplier invoices and managing debtors account reconciliations
• Assist with cashflow and sales reporting including weekly sales, margin and channel performance
• Assist with tax compliance including preparation of quarterly BAS and ensure compliance with GST, PAYG and payroll obligations
• Proactively engage the business units in providing commercial and analytical support to build a strong reputation between Finance and the rest of the business

The Expertise

• You have recently completed your CPA or CA and may either be in a mid-tier chartered firm in Business Services Advisory or an SME industry environment with experience in consumer product based environments
