Job summary

ThompsonCook, a high-growth Australian FMCG start-up, is seeking a commercial Head of Finance to join the leadership team in Melbourne. You will partner with the ELT to reshape finance, build capability from the ground up and drive key strategic initiatives.

Reporting to the Managing Director, you will lead a growing finance function, deliver value-added reporting, influence pricing and margins, manage cashflow, and support international expansion.

Qualifications

• CPA or CA qualification and experience leading finance in a fast-paced environment.
• Hands-on leadership with team management experience in start-up/scale-up settings.
• Experience delivering commercially focused financial insights and performance analytics.

Responsibilities

• Deliver accurate and value-add financial and management reporting.
• Drive commercial outcomes through trend analysis and performance analytics.
• Provide sales analysis on pricing, margins and cost of goods sold.
• Manage cashflow and key banking relationships.
• Lead budgeting processes with MD support.

The Opportunity

This is a very exciting opportunity for a commercial-minded Head of Finance to join the leadership team of this exciting and innovative, high-growth Australian owned business to be part of the blue-print of finance. This role replaces an existing incumbent, as the business looks to strengthen the finance function by bringing in a more experienced candidate excited about overhauling finance, building capability from the ground up by developing stronger internal relationships, providing great insight into financial performance and drive key strategic commercial initiatives that will propel the business to the next stage of their growth, which includes international expansion.

You will report directly to a vibrant and progressive Managing Director and work with a collegiate team of peers towards a common goal. In addition, you will work towards building a close-knit finance team that will be highly visible and seen as a true business partner to the organisation.

You will be given a lot of autonomy and responsibility with a clear mandate to exercise your initiative and process improvement initiatives.

The Challenge

In this key leadership role that will grow and develop over time, you will have a broad range of responsibilities including:

• Delivering accurate and value-add financial and management reporting
• Driving commercial outcomes through meaningful trend analysis and performance analytics
• Providing sales analysis related to pricing and margins as well as cost of goods sold
• Manage cashflow requirements including key banking relationships
• Preparation of an annual budget with the support of the MD
• Supporting the ELT with the provision of financial, strategic, and key decision leadership and advice
• Developing, improving and implementing accounting and financial management systems, policies, and procedures consistent with strategic and operational plans and funding
• Driving process improvements and building a culture of continuous improvement
• Lead a Financial Accountant with the pathway to grow the team in headcount as the business continues to grow

The Expertise

• You are CPA or CA qualified;
• Big 4/ Mid-tier trained with direct industry experience within a fast-paced, agile Manufacturing/ FMCG environment will be preferred;
• Proven ability demonstrating hands-on leadership in a broad people management role ideally with some experience in start-up environments;
• Experience uplifting capability of finance and delivering more commercially focussed insights;
• A personality and style that will fit into a fast-paced, entrepreneurial and commercially-focused culture;

• Experience in hands-on, senior finance roles will be looked upon favourably
