Appreciating Talent is seeking a qualified Financial Accountant to join a high-performing finance team in Sydney. This role covers financial reporting, management accounting, tax compliance and process improvements in a fast-paced professional services setting.

You will work closely with senior finance professionals, supporting month-end, statutory reporting, budgeting and forecasting while mentoring junior team members and driving process improvements.

Qualifications

  • CA or CPA qualification or actively working towards it.
  • 3+ years of relevant accounting experience.
  • Experience in professional services, ideally law or similar environment.
  • Strong knowledge of financial reporting and tax compliance.
  • Excellent reconciliation and analytical skills.
  • Advanced Excel skills with large data sets.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare month-end journals including accruals and prepayments.
  • Assist with monthly management accounts and financial commentary.
  • Maintain balance sheet reconciliations.
  • Support BAS, FBT and other tax compliance activities.
  • Assist with year-end reporting, audits and work papers.
  • Support budgeting, forecasting and cash flow reporting.
  • Review financial data for discrepancies and GL coding.
  • Collaborate with Accounts Payable and finance teams.

Job Description

We are seeking an experienced Financial Accountant to join a high-performing finance team within a professional services environment. This is an excellent opportunity for an accountant looking to broaden their experience across financial reporting, management accounting, tax compliance and process improvement.
Working closely with senior finance professionals and key stakeholders, you will play an important role in supporting the day-to-day financial operations of the business. You will gain broad exposure across month-end, statutory compliance, reporting, budgeting and forecasting, while contributing to process improvements and supporting junior members of the finance team.

Key responsibilities
  • Prepare month-end journals, including accruals, prepayments, fixed assets and revenue
  • Assist with monthly management accounts, reporting and financial commentary
  • Prepare and maintain balance sheet reconciliations
  • Support BAS, FBT and other tax compliance activities
  • Maintain the fixed asset register and chart of accounts
  • Assist with year-end reporting, audits and supporting work papers
  • Support budgeting, forecasting and cash flow reporting
  • Prepare statutory and external financial reports
  • Review financial data and identify discrepancies or areas requiring investigation
  • Review employee expense claims and ensure accurate and consistent general ledger coding
  • Work collaboratively with Accounts Payable on vendor verification and finance processes
  • Maintain accurate financial records, documentation and filing systems
  • Provide guidance and support to junior finance team members
  • Contribute to process improvement initiatives and finance projects
  • Assist with ad hoc tasks across the broader finance function
About you

You will be a technically strong accountant with a proactive approach and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced professional services environment.
Ideally, you will have:

  • CA or CPA qualification, or be actively working towards qualification
  • 3+ years' relevant accounting experience
  • Experience within professional services, ideally a law or similar professional environment
  • Strong knowledge of financial reporting and tax compliance
  • Excellent reconciliation and analytical skills
  • Advanced Excel skills, including complex formulas and working with large datasets
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to manage competing priorities and meet deadlines
  • A collaborative approach with the confidence to work with stakeholders at all levels
  • An interest in improving processes and finding more efficient ways of working
