Job summary

Private Advertiser in Sydney, Australia, seeks an experienced Financial Accountant to join our finance team. You will execute core accounting processes, prepare management reports, manage complex client invoicing, and contribute to compliance reporting and financial planning activities.

The role has potential to progress to a Finance Manager position for the right candidate. Strong Excel, netsuite/xero, Power BI, SQL, and Power Query experience are highly regarded.

Qualifications

• Tertiary qualifications in Accounting or Finance and CA/CPA.
• 3–5 years of relevant experience in financial and/or management accounting.
• Excellent Excel skills with advanced formulas and pivot tables.
• Experience with Power BI, SQL, and Power Query.
• Experience using AI tools to improve finance processes.

Responsibilities

• Own the end-to-end month-end process and board reporting requirements.
• Prepare and maintain balance sheet reconciliations.
• Generate weekly management reports to support business decision-making.
• Contribute to the preparation of annual budgets and quarterly forecasts.
• Support annual audit and tax processes, including working with external auditors.
• Manage annual FBT return preparation and lodgement.
• Own the preparation of the monthly board report and provide commentary on business performance.
• Leverage AI to automate board reporting requirements.
• Provide insights and commentary on trends in revenue, direct costs and KPIs.
• Use Netsuite/Xero efficiently and leverage advanced Excel skills (VLOOKUP, INDEX-MATCH, pivot tables).
• Apply Power Query for data transformation and automate processes; use SQL to query data.
• Interpret financial data through Power BI dashboards and reports.
• Assist with ad hoc analysis, reporting or projects as required.
• Assist in system implementations and process improvements to drive automation.

We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Financial Accountant to join our finance team. The successful candidate will be responsible for executing core accounting processes, preparing and analysing management reports, managing complex client invoicing, and contributing to compliance reporting and financial planning activities. This role requires strong analytical skills, advanced Excel capabilities, experience with modern accounting systems, a genuine appetite for using AI to work smarter and automate manual effort, and the ability to work autonomously while collaborating with various internal and external stakeholders.

Key responsibilities

• Interpret financial data through Power BI dashboards and reports.
• Assist with ad hoc analysis, reporting, or projects as required.

About you

• Tertiary qualifications in Accounting or Finance and CA/CPA
• Minimum 3–5 years of relevant experience in financial and/or management accounting roles
• High proficiency in Excel, including advance formulas and pivot tables
• Hands-on experience with Power BI, SQL, and Power Query is highly regarded
• Practical experience using AI tools (such as Claude, Microsoft Copilot or ChatGPT) to improve finance processes is highly regarded
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
