Job summary

Public Sector People is seeking a Finance Officer for a local council in Eastern Melbourne. This 24-hour-per-week, hybrid role offers an ASAP start and a 3-month temporary contract with potential permanency.

Role involves raising POs, reviewing utilities bills, monthly reconciliations, meticulous record-keeping and acting as the main contact for internal teams and suppliers. Experience in public sector is preferred.

Qualifications

• Previous experience in local government, public sector, healthcare or education
• Tertiary qualification in a relevant field
• Minimum 2-3 years in a similar role
• TechOne experience highly desirable

Responsibilities

• Raise purchase orders and receipt utilities bills in TechOne, coded to the right cost centre and approved before payment
• Review utilities bills for anomalies and follow up with suppliers until resolved
• Complete monthly reconciliations, including utilities accruals and creditor accounts
• Keep accurate records and supporting documents for smooth month-end closes and audit requests
• Be the go-to contact for internal teams and suppliers on utilities queries

$42 - $48 per hour

About the role

We are looking for a Finance Officer to join our client, a local council in Eastern Melbourne. This is a part-time, hybrid role with an ASAP start. It’s a great chance to get hands‑on in a busy finance team, with the potential to move into a permanent position for the right person.

What you’ll do

• Raise purchase orders and receipt utilities bills in TechOne, making sure each one is coded to the right cost centre and approved before payment


• Review utilities bills for anomalies such as unusual usage, duplicate charges or billing errors, and follow them up with suppliers until they’re resolved


• Complete monthly reconciliations, including utilities accruals and creditor accounts, and investigate any variances


• Keep accurate records and supporting documents so month‑end closes smoothly and audit requests are easy to answer


• Be the go‑to contact for internal teams and suppliers on utilities queries, responding quickly and keeping everyone updated

About you
