Job summary

ThompsonCook, an established independent school in Melbourne's inner east, seeks a Finance Manager on a 12-month parental leave cover. Lead a capable team across finance operations, payroll and reporting, partnering with senior leaders to manage financial performance.

The role involves monthly reporting, budgeting, forecasting and statutory financial duties, with on-site work five days a week and flexible start/finish times. CA/CPA-qualified candidates with 5+ years of experience are preferred.

Qualifications

• CA/CPA qualified with at least five years' experience in a finance role.
• Strong technical accounting, financial reporting, budgeting and compliance experience.
• Experience overseeing transactional finance functions including accounts payable, accounts receivable and payroll.
• Confident leadership skills with ability to build relationships across stakeholders.
• Advanced Excel skills with a hands-on, adaptable approach to priorities.
• Education sector experience and familiarity with Synergetic or Micropay desirable.

Responsibilities

• Oversee monthly management reporting, financial analysis, budgeting, forecasting and reporting to senior leadership and the Finance & Risk Committee.
• Partner with department heads and budget holders to support financial performance, investigate variances and inform decision-making.
• Lead and support a finance team across Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable and Payroll.
• Manage audit preparation, tax compliance, financial controls and statutory reporting requirements.
• Oversee tuition fee billing, debt collection, payroll, superannuation and employee entitlements, ensuring compliance with legislation and enterprise agreements.
• Drive continuous improvement across finance processes, systems, automation and reporting, including system upgrades.
