Job summary

Scale Suite is seeking a finance leader to run the finance function for a portfolio of growing Australian businesses. You’ll manage month-end close, BAS, IAS, payroll oversight, and payments, ensuring timely lodgement.

You’ll work primarily remotely, with around one day per week in Sydney to connect with clients and the team. You’ll own client relationships directly, meeting needs across Australian hours and guiding the finance operation end to end.

Qualifications

• CA or CPA with at least three years owning a full Australian finance function (close, BAS, payroll).
• Direct communication with founders and clients in plain English.
• Proficiency with Xero and related financial systems; comfort with AI-enabled tools.

Responsibilities

• Own each client's finance rhythm: month-end close, BAS and IAS, payroll oversight and payment runs, lodged on time.
• Be the direct line for your clients: questions, escalations and judgement calls answered by you.
• Onboard new clients: bring their finance operation into Scale Suite's workflow, regardless of systems.
• Support bigger moments: cash flow management, financing negotiations, and standing up overseas entities as needed.
• Maintain high standards across your portfolio; everything under your name must be correct.

Run the finance function for a handful of growing Australian businesses, from wherever you work best: mostly remote, with around a day a week alongside them in Sydney when they need you. We bring the clients; you own them.

About Scale Suite

Scale Suite gives growing Australian businesses their whole finance function as one embedded team: the daily operations, the reporting and analysis, and the senior thinking, without them building a department. We are not an accounting practice and we do not run like one. No timesheets, no charge-out rates, no partner pyramid. AI carries a growing share of the production, an engineering team is joining soon to push that further, and new clients keep arriving faster than we can hire.

The role

You take ownership of a small portfolio of clients, end to end. Their month-end close, their BAS, their payroll oversight, their payment runs, their question at four o’clock on a Thursday. You are the person they deal with, and you answer them directly. Most weeks you meet your clients wherever they are, across Australian hours; around one day a week you are in a client's Sydney office, depending on what they need, because some things are best sorted at their desk. The rest of the team works each client with you, and your work is reviewed lightly, not managed. Your first client assignment is live and waiting.

What you'll do

• Own each client's finance rhythm: month-end close, BAS and IAS, payroll oversight and payment runs, done properly and lodged on time.
• Be the direct line for your clients: their questions, escalations and judgement calls, answered by you, not routed through anyone.
• Onboard new clients: bring their whole finance operation across into how we work, whatever systems they are on.
• Step into the bigger moments as they arrive. On any given week that might mean steadying a scale-up's cash flow, working a financing negotiation, or helping stand up an overseas entity.
• Keep the standard high across your own book. What goes out under your name is right.

Who we're after

• CA or CPA, with at least three years personally owning a full Australian finance function: the close, the BAS, the payroll.
• Comfortable in front of founders. You answer directly, in plain English, and they trust you quickly.
• Fluent in Xero and systems-minded. You will meet the odd system nobody here has touched, and that is part of the fun.
• You use AI as a matter of course.
• Real agency, direct and humble at once, and zero appetite for office politics.
• Trajectory over tenure. We care where you are heading, not how long you have been going, and this suits someone still hungry for the climb.
• Based within reach of Sydney for the client-office days.

What this isn't

Not a strategy-deck role. The clients are already signed and more are coming. It is the doing, owned properly.
