Sharp & Carter is seeking an experienced Company Accountant to own the finance function in a stand-alone capacity. This 12-month contract covers parental leave for a South Sydney business with ~40 staff, reporting to Directors and handling month-end, AP/AR/payroll, and detailed financial analysis.

The role suits autonomous individuals with a hands-on approach, strong reconciliation skills and a commercial mindset to drive improvements across finance systems and controls.

Qualifications

Company Accountant

Are you an experienced Company Accountant looking for a role where you can truly own the finance function? We’re seeking an experienced and hands‑on Company Accountant to join a successful, family-focused organisation in South Sydney on a 12-month temporary contract, covering a period of parental leave.

This is a genuine stand‑alone finance role, giving you ownership across the full finance function for a business of approximately 40 employees. You’ll work closely with the Directors and wider business, overseeing everything from month‑end and management reporting through to AP, AR and payroll.

The Role:

• Managing the month‑end close
• Preparing journals, reconciliations and financial reports
• Preparing monthly management reporting
• Managing cash flow and forecasting
• Managing capital expenditure and financial controls
• Overseeing AP, AR and Payroll
• Providing financial analysis and insights to the Directors
• Maintaining strong financial processes and controls
• Identifying opportunities to improve finance systems and processes
• Working alongside an Accounts Administrator who will support the transactional finance function
• Acting as the key point of contact for all day‑to‑day finance matters

You’ll be the go‑to person for all things finance, so we’re looking for someone who enjoys autonomy, variety and getting into the detail when required.

About You:

• Previous experience as a Company Accountant or in a similar all‑round accounting role
• Experience working within a small to medium‑size business
• Strong month‑end and management reporting experience
• Solid reconciliation, cash flow and financial control skills
• Experience across AP, AR and Payroll
• A hands‑on and practical approach
• Strong communication and stakeholder management skills
• The ability to work autonomously and take ownership
• A commercial mindset and willingness to get involved across the business
• The ability to hit the ground running
