Job summary

Above Advisory Pty Ltd is an Australian accounting and business advisory firm seeking a commercially minded Finance Manager to own the internal finance function. You will lead budgeting, policy development, and statutory reporting, ensuring compliance with Australian standards and the Corporations Act.

You will supervise the finance team, oversee payroll, dashboards, and performance analyses to support growth and decision making.

Responsibilities

• Establish and monitor internal budgeting and accounting policies with the Director.
• Ensure compliance with Australian Accounting Standards, Corporations Act, and ATO reporting obligations.
• Design internal controls, thresholds and duties segregation; address weaknesses.
• Oversee monthly management accounts, P&L, balance sheet and cash flows on time.
• Present results to the Director with variance analysis and driving drivers.
• Lead the finance team, allocate work and build capability as the firm scales.
• Project staffing, capacity and resourcing needs; advise on outlook and reforecast.

As our firm continues to grow, we are is seeking a commercially minded Finance Manager to take ownership of the internal finance function of our growing accounting and advisory business.

Roles and responsibilities include:

Financial Strategy, Policy & Compliance

• Establish, apply and periodically reassess the firm's internal budgetary and accounting policies, procedures and spending delegations in consultation with the Director, and translate the Director's growth objectives into costed, measurable financial plans.
• Ensure compliance with Australian Accounting Standards, the Corporations Act and ATO reporting obligations, including superannuation guarantee, PAYG withholding, payroll tax, BAS and IAS lodgements.
• Design and maintain internal financial controls, approval thresholds and segregation of duties, and act on any weaknesses identified.
• Act as the firm's primary point of contact for external accountants, auditors and financiers.

Leadership of the Finance Function

• Hold end-to-end accountability for Above Advisory Pty Ltd’s internal finance function and the staff who deliver it, including direct reports and offshore or outsourced personnel.
• Supervise and allocate work across the finance team, set performance expectations, review output quality and build technical capability.
• Determine how finance work is resourced as the firm scales

Financial Reporting & Performance Analysis

• Oversee and direct the preparation of monthly management accounts, ensuring the profit and loss statement, balance sheet and cash flow statement are completed accurately and to deadline.
• Present monthly results and written commentary to the Director, investigating variances against budget, forecast and prior periods and identifying the underlying drivers.
• Review and authorise payroll before processing, and oversee payroll reconciliations and statutory reporting.
• Determine the firm's suite of management dashboards and reporting tools, coordinate their build and refinement, and continually raise the timeliness and usefulness of internal reporting.

Budgeting, Forecasting & Long-Range Planning

• Lead the annual budget process end to end, from setting assumptions through to Director sign-off.
• Produce multi-year profitability and earnings projections, and build scenario and sensitivity models to test proposed business decisions before they are made.
• Project staffing, capacity and resourcing needs against anticipated demand, reforecast on a rolling basis as actual performance emerges, and advise the Director where the outlook has shifted.

Cash Flow, Working Capital & Funding

• Manage the firm's cash position and maintain forward-looking cash flow forecasts, overseeing debtor ageing and client payment performance and escalating collection risks.
• Formulate and recommend strategies to shorten the cash conversion cycle and strengthen working capital.
• Advise the Director on funding requirements, appropriate sources of finance, facility structures, and the timing and quantum of profit distributions.

Commercial & Investment Analysis

• Evaluate capital expenditure and investment proposals – technology platforms, systems, premises and expansion with a costed recommendation and return on investment on each, and monitor the financial status of internal projects once underway against their business case.
• Conduct break-even and margin analysis by client segment and job type, assess the profitability of the firm's pricing models and service packages, and recommend adjustments.
• Provide the financial analysis underpinning decisions on recruitment, outsourcing, team structure and expansion, and establish and monitor financial and productivity KPIs across the accounting, bookkeeping and sales teams.

Accounting Systems

• Coordinate the selection, implementation and ongoing monitoring of the firm's accounting and practice management systems, maintain the chart of accounts and reporting structures, and drive automation and integration across finance platforms.

• At least 1-year minimum experience as a Finance Manager or in a related field.

Salary Offered

• $80,000 – $100,000 per annum, plus superannuation.
