Job summary

Banjima Native Title Aboriginal Corporation (BNTAC) is seeking an experienced Finance Manager to join our growing team. Reporting to the CFO, you will oversee day-to-day financial activities, ensure integrity of financial operations, and support governance and risk management to deliver on strategic and community priorities.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance is required.
  • 2+ years' CPA is preferred.
  • 3+ years' experience in a similar role is desirable.
  • Strong knowledge of month-end/year-end processes.
  • Experience with financial statements and audits.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise and mentor finance staff including 4 officers.
  • Oversee payables, receivables, payroll, reconciliations and cash flow.
  • Deliver timely month-end and year-end processes.
  • Support preparation of annual financial statements and external audits.
  • Maintain registers for grants, contracts and insurance.
  • Review payroll journals, invoices, purchase orders, and funding payments.
  • Ensure compliance with employment awards, tax, and superannuation.
  • Contribute to budgets, forecasts, and Board reporting.
  • Drive process improvements and strengthen internal controls.

The Opportunity

We are seeking an experienced Finance Manager to join our growing team. This is a pivotal role that will ensure the integrity of BNTAC's financial operations, compliance, and reporting. Reporting to the CFO, you will oversee day-to-day financial activities, support governance and risk management, and provide trusted financial advice to enable BNTAC to deliver on its strategic and community priorities.

Key Responsibilities

Supervise and mentor x4 Finance & Payroll Officers.

Oversee financial operations including accounts payable/receivable, payroll, reconciliations, and cash flow management.

Deliver accurate and timely month-end and year-end processes, including accruals, provisions, and reconciliations.

Support preparation of annual financial statements and external audits.

Maintain registers for grants, contracts, and insurance while tracking obligations and compliance requirements.

Review and approve payroll journals, invoices, purchase orders, and funding payments.

Ensure compliance with relevant employment awards, tax obligations, and superannuation requirements.

Contribute to the preparation of budgets, forecasts, and Board reporting.

Drive process improvements and strengthen internal controls.

About You

You're highly detail-oriented, steady under pressure, and able to balance the demands of day-to-day finance with the bigger strategic picture.

You will have:

A Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance.

2+ years' CPA.

3+ years' experience in a similar role preferred.

Strong knowledge of month-end/year-end processes.

Proven ability to prepare financial statements and audit files.

Excellent Excel skills and financial systems literacy (Xero proficiency highly desirable).

Strong leadership skills with experience mentoring finance staff.

High attention to detail, with excellent communication and organisational skills.

A collaborative mindset and ability to work effectively with diverse stakeholders.

Demonstrated cultural competence and respect when working with Aboriginal people and communities.

Must be an Australian Permanent Resident or Citizen.
