Job summary

Hoses24 is seeking a hands-on Finance Manager to own and run the day-to-day finance function. You will lead a small team, drive month-end processes, ensure ledger integrity, and manage audit and tax compliance while maintaining strong controls.

You will oversee payroll, work closely with senior leaders, and use systems to improve finance processes in a growing SME. Hybrid work arrangements may be considered for a Brisbane-area candidate.

Qualifications

• Payroll knowledge with controls; hands-on processing experience is advantageous.
• CA or CPA qualification or substantial progress towards completion.
• Experience leading a small finance team and coaching performance.

• Systems mindset with a track record of improving finance processes.
• Strong commercial judgement and ability to work with non-finance stakeholders.

About the Role:

The People Plugin is partnering with Hoses24 to find a hands-on Finance Manager who will own and run the day-to-day finance function. Reporting to the GM - Finance, you will lead a small team while remaining close to the detail, personally driving month-end, ledger integrity, management reporting, financial controls, audit and tax compliance, cash-flow visibility, problem-solving and process improvement.

This is not a role for someone who only manages from a distance. Hoses24 needs a practical finance leader who can keep the core finance engine moving, build structure and accountability, and use systems and technology to make the function work better.

The role is based at Hoses24's Forest Glen office on the Sunshine Coast. Sunshine Hybrid arrangements will be considered for an exceptional Brisbane or northern Brisbane candidate who can attend the office regularly (at least two days each week) with flexible start and finish times.

Key Responsibilities

• Own the Finance Function: Take hands-on responsibility for Hoses24's day-to-day accounting operations and ensure reliable, timely delivery.
• Month-End & Reporting: Lead month-end close, reconciliations, ledger integrity, management reporting and cash-flow visibility.
• Compliance & Controls: Maintain strong financial controls and lead audit, tax and other statutory compliance requirements.
• Payroll Oversight: Take accountability for accurate, compliant and timely payroll delivery, including providing hands-on support with processing (potential to transition routine processing to a dedicated payroll resource as the finance function evolves)
• Team Leadership: Lead, coach and performance-manage three office-based direct reports, while coordinating one offshore accounts-receivable resource.
• Systems & Improvement: Identify problems, improve processes and use technology to increase accuracy, efficiency and insight.
• Business Partnership: Work closely with the GM - Finance, senior leaders, operations and external advisers to support sound commercial decisions.

About You

• Technical Accounting: Demonstrated hands-on ownership of month-end, reconciliations, ledger integrity, management reporting, controls, audit and tax compliance.
• Payroll Capability: Practical knowledge of end-to-end payroll, relevant compliance requirements and payroll controls. Recent hands-on processing experience is advantageous, although it is not essential for an otherwise strong candidate who can confidently oversee payroll and support the initial transition.
• Qualifications: CA or CPA qualified, or substantially progressed towards completion, supported by broad commercial accounting experience.
• People Leadership: Experience leading a small finance team, setting clear expectations, coaching performance and maintaining delivery.
• Hands-On Approach: Willing and able to work in the detail, resolve day-to-day accounting issues and take personal ownership of outcomes.
• Systems Mindset: Strong technology curiosity and a record of improving finance systems, processes and ways of working.
• Commercial Judgement: Clear communication, practical problem-solving and the confidence to work with finance and non-finance stakeholders.
• Transferable Experience: Experience in a growing SME or mid-sized operational business is highly regarded. Industrial services, trade, distribution, field service or manufacturing exposure is useful but not essential. Payroll capability is desirable, not a deal-breaker for an otherwise strong candidate.
