Job summary

SGS Australia is seeking a FIFO Laboratory Assistant to join our relief pool based in Perth. The role supports onsite laboratories, performing hands-on sample processing, weighing, and analysis with ICP, XRF, and AAS equipment. It requires reliability, accuracy, and teamwork in a dynamic environment.

The position offers exposure to mineral testing workloads across multiple SGS facilities, emphasizing safe procedures and quality control while supporting day-to-day testing operations.

Qualifications

• Previous experience working in a minerals or analytical laboratory.
• Good organisational skills and the ability to manage repetitive tasks accurately.
• Clear communication skills and the confidence to ask questions when needed.
• A positive, flexible attitude and willingness to work across different sites.
• The ability to work safely and follow laboratory procedures at all times.

Responsibilities

• Loading, unloading, sorting and weighing samples onto drying racks
• Making sure samples stay in the correct numerical order at all times
• Analysing mineral samples using laboratory equipment such as ICP, XRF and AAS
• Checking incoming samples against submission forms and recording any missing or extra samples
• Milling samples and transferring sub-samples into packets, following quality and contamination control procedures
• Assisting with screening, crushing and other laboratory tasks as required
