Job summary

Mackay Regional Council’s Mobile Assets team invites applications for a hands-on Serviceperson Labourer – Mobile Assets & Workshop based at Paget Depot. You’ll work with mechanics to maintain vehicles, heavy plant and fleet assets, in a safe, supportive depot environment.

This permanent full-time role includes a 9-day fortnight roster and a base salary of $70,813.93 per year, with opportunities to develop skills through field work across the Mackay region and occasional after-hours standby.

Qualifications

• Mechanical aptitude and practical experience in a workshop, fleet, transport, heavy vehicle, plant or similar environment.
• Strong commitment to safety and ability to follow procedures.
• Ability to work independently and contribute positively to a team.
• Capacity to undertake physical and field-based requirements.
• Availability to participate in rotating after-hours on-call roster.

Responsibilities

• Assist mechanics and tradespeople with vehicle, heavy plant and equipment maintenance.
• Complete basic servicing, preventative maintenance, pre-start inspections and minor repairs.
• Attend field breakdowns and support basic fault identification and recovery.
• Refuel, clean and prepare vehicles and plant; assist with tyres, batteries and consumables.
• Transport vehicles, plant, parts and tools; support stores and inventory.
• Maintain a clean, safe workshop following Council procedures and WHS requirements.
• Participate in rotating after-hours standby roster for emergencies and critical operations.
