Job summary

Banana Shire Council is seeking a field data inspector to support the Infrastructure Technology Section. You will perform inspections, data collection and asset condition reporting across roads, bridges and related infrastructure in Central Queensland.

You will capture data for asset management systems, assist in maintenance planning, and liaise with landholders and contractors. Proficiency in MS Office and GIS is desirable; a valid Queensland driver’s license is required.

Qualifications

  • Queensland ‘C’ class manual driver’s licence (provisional acceptable).
  • Queensland General Safety Induction – White or Blue Card.
  • Desirable: Civil Construction and Field Data Capture experience/qualifications.
  • Desirable: Traffic Management Implementation Plan Competency and Traffic Controller Competency.

Responsibilities

  • Undertake programmed inspections, condition assessments and data collection for roads, bridges, culverts, stormwater and related assets.
  • Undertake Level 1 bridge and major culvert inspections per standards.
  • Identify and report asset defects, risks and maintenance requirements to support prioritisation of works.
  • Capture and manage asset condition data and inspection records in asset management systems and GIS.
  • Assist in development/validation of maintenance and renewal programs through accurate field data.
  • Program and undertake traffic counts and other asset data collection to support planning.
  • Assist with administration and inspection of Minor Works on Roads, maintaining registers and GIS mapping.
  • Provide technical support to Infrastructure Services and liaise with landholders, contractors and stakeholders.
  • Promote the Council image and maintain good public relations.
  • Liaise with clients, staff, public, consultants and authorities; provide and obtain information.
  • Undertake routine admin tasks such as timesheets; support continuous process improvement.
  • Participate in training, exercises and disaster management as required.
  • Undertake other duties as directed within skills and training.

The Opportunity

To provide assistance with the field activities and operations of the Infrastructure Technology Section of Council.

About Us

Banana Shire is situated in Central Queensland, Australia located 120 km west of the growing industrial city and port of Gladstone - and an easy drive to the city of Rockhampton.

Our population is approximately 15,000 people spread over 28,577 square kilometres. Major industries in the area include Coal Mining, Power Generation, Beef Production, dryland cropping and irrigation such as Lucerne and Cotton.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Undertake programmed inspections, condition assessments and data collection activities for roads, bridges, culverts, stormwater, footpaths, lighting, gravel pits, water sources, gates, grids and associated infrastructure assets
  • Undertake Level 1 bridge and major culvert inspections in accordance with relevant standards.
  • Identify, assess and report asset defects, risks and maintenance requirements, including third-party assets, to support prioritisation of maintenance, renewal and improvement works
  • Accurately capture, maintain and manage asset condition data, inspection records, defect registers and asset information within Council’s asset management systems, GIS platforms and associated databases, ensuring data quality, consistency and completeness
  • Assist in the development and validation of maintenance and renewal programs, including resealing, re-sheeting and other asset renewal activities, through the provision of accurate field data and technical information
  • Program and undertake traffic counts and other asset-related data collection activities to support infrastructure planning and decision-making
  • Assist with the administration and inspection of Minor Works on Roads applications, including maintaining associated registers, records and GIS mapping
  • Provide technical support to the Infrastructure Services team and liaise with landholders, contractors and stakeholders regarding inspections, defects, asset conditions and access requirements
  • Contribute to the promotion of the image of the Council and the maximisation of good public relations
  • Liaise with clients, other Council staff, the public, consultants, utility and government authorities in the performance of duties, including providing and obtaining information
  • Undertake routine administrative tasks as required by the position, e.g. timesheets
  • Assist senior staff to continuously improve work processes and develop new practices, as required
  • Participate in training, exercises and response to disaster management and recovery as required
  • Undertake other relevant duties as directed, consistent with skills, competence and training.
QUALIFICATIONS, EDUCATION AND LICENCE REQUIREMENTS
Compulsory
  • Queensland ‘C’ class manual driver’s licence (minimum requirement – provisional licence)
  • QLD General Safety Induction – White or Blue Card.
Desirable
  • Relevant experience and/or qualifications in Civil Construction and Field Data Capture
  • Traffic Management Implementation Plan Competency
  • Traffic Controller Competency.
ABILITIES, SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED
Compulsory
  • Ability to work effectively within a team environment or with minimal supervision
  • Sound keyboard and computer skills, including working knowledge of the MS Office Suite of programs and related software programs
  • Good literacy, numeracy and oral communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a team environment under minimal supervision
  • Sound understanding of and commitment to EEO and WHS principles and practices.
Desirable
  • Knowledge of construction, data collection and asset management practices.
