Job summary

Hastings Deering (Australia) Ltd in Emerald is seeking a Field Service Fitter to join our award‑winning team. This permanent role offers flexible rosters (7/7, Mon-Fri, 9‑day fortnight or 4‑day week) with a company vehicle, Field Service Allowance and Area Allowance.

You’ll service customers across civil, agriculture and mining sites, living in or near Emerald. As a Field Service Fitter you’ll complete repairs safely and promptly, plan daily service work, maintain paperwork, ensure high quality

Qualifications

• Trade qualifications required: Certificate III in Mobile Plant Technology or equivalent diesel fitter trade.
• Caterpillar product knowledge and diagnostic tooling experience.
• Strong troubleshooting to diagnose mechanical/electrical/hydraulic faults.

Responsibilities

• Complete repairs and maintenance safely and promptly.
• Plan and organise daily service requirements.
• Maintain and complete all job paperwork.
• Ensure work quality is consistently high.
• Monitor workflows and time to maximise productivity.

This is a permanent position offering flexible roster options, including 7/7, Monday to Friday, a 9-day fortnight or a 4-day week. You will support customers across a mix of civil, agriculture and mining sites, with a vehicle, Field Service Allowance and Area Allowance provided. This role would suit someone who lives in Emerald or the surrounding area.

As a Field Service Fitter at Hastings Deering, you will:

• Complete all repairs and maintenance in a safe and timely manner.
• Plan and organise daily service requirements.
• Maintain and complete all paperwork associated with job completion.
• Ensure the quality of your work is of the highest standards at all times.
• Monitor workflows and time to maximise efficiency and productivity.

About You

A successful teammate will have:

• Trade qualifications – Certificate III in Mobile Plant Technology, Heavy Commercial Vehicle Mechanical Technology or equivalent diesel fitter trade.
• Caterpillar product knowledge – experience working on CAT machinery, systems and diagnostic tooling.
• Strong troubleshooting skills – ability to diagnose mechanical, electrical and hydraulic faults independently.
• Customer-focused mindset – confident in building relationships, managing expectations and providing clear updates.
• Safety-first approach – committed to maintaining high WHS standards at all times.
• Valid driver’s licence – required to travel between customer sites across the region.
• Site vaccination requirements - Current Q Fever and hepatitis A and B vaccinations, or willingness to obtain them, are required to work across agriculture and waste transfer sites.
