Job summary

NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service in Dubbo is seeking a Field Officer 1-4 to support field duties including asset maintenance, weed control, fire management and visitor services to protect natural and cultural heritage.

This physically active role requires teamwork, travel to remote sites, and occasional leadership on projects; weekends/public holidays are required. Pre-employment medical clearance is part of the process.

Qualifications

• C Class licence or equivalent.
• MR licence and ability to operate MR vehicles if required.
• First Aid certificate within 6 months of commencement.
• White Card within 6 months of commencement.
• Chainsaw certification (level 1 crosscut) within 12 months.

• Operate a range of plant and equipment and assist visitor services.
• Work as part of a team and in remote locations; follow NPWS procedures and safety requirements.

• Salary relative to experience, and ranges from $60,629 to $80,886 (+17% loading) and employer's contribution to superannuation and 17% loading for working weekends and public holidays

About the role

National Parks and Wildlife Service has a unique opportunity for a Field Officer to work as part of the team and contribute towards the conservation of the natural environment, flora, fauna and Aboriginal heritage.

National Parks and Wildlife Service has the opportunity to join the team and work within the Dubbo Area contributing towards the conservation of the natural environment, historic buildings and aboriginal heritage. The Field Officer 1-4 role undertakes a broad range of operational field duties including asset construction and maintenance, feral animal and weed control, fire management, plant and equipment operation, and visitor services. The role contributes to the protection of natural and cultural heritage values of parks. Duties are performed in accordance with NPWS procedures and safety requirements to ensure that the public has access to appropriately maintained recreational environments.

This is a physically active role suited to candidates of all genders who are fit, enjoy working outdoors as part of a team, and are eager to learn and develop the skills and qualifications needed to contribute toward improving and maintaining NSW national parks.

This role involves working on a rotating roster and you will be required to work on weekends and public holidays.

About You

Your passion for your community and environment, coupled with a strong attention to detail and safety will be key to your success in this role. You'll be a strong decision-maker with the ability to lead operations at times and solve problems in the field. You’ll enjoy working as part of a team but be able to work alone or with minimal supervision. You’ll need to be comfortable travelling and working in remote locations and able to solve problems without external assistance. You will work closely with other members of the team and may be required to lead projects. Your fitness and enthusiasm will enable you to thrive and succeed in this diverse and dynamic role.

Key knowledge and experience

• Willingness to fly in light aircraft.
• Willingness to exercise delegated authority for compliance activities.
• Ability to use computer systems, tablet devices and communicate and operate a two-way radio.
• Ability to appropriately operate and maintain a range of plant and equipment, including but not limited to conditionally registered vehicles, watercraft (non-coxswain), lifting apparatus and appropriate plant.

Essential requirements - As detailed in the Role Description

• Current Australian Class C Drivers licence or equivalent.
• Ability to obtain Medium Rigid (MR) Licence and operate MR vehicles, if required.
• Obtain a Four-Wheel Drive (4WD) Recovery Certification (Statement of Attainment) within 6 months of commencement as arranged by NPWS with compliant providers.
• First Aid certificate obtained within 6 months of commencement.
• Obtain General Construction Induction card (White Card) within 6 months from commencement.
• Certification (Statement of Attainment) to operate a chainsaw to level 1 crosscut standard obtained within 12 months from commencement.
