Job summary

Biosecurity Queensland is seeking motivated and reliable Field Officers to join the Fire Ant Eradication Program, working from the Laidley Depot. This is an excellent opportunity for people who enjoy working outdoors, exploring different environments, and being part of an important initiative protecting Queensland from invasive pests.

Qualifications

• Hold a current open driver’s licence.
• Experience in landscaping, agriculture, arboriculture, conservation, land management, civil works, or other physically active outdoor roles.
• Be physically fit and capable of walking 10–15 km per day across varied terrain.
• Strong communication and customer service skills.

Responsibilities

• Conduct visual surveillance for fire ants and other insect pests.
• Apply bait treatments in targeted areas.
• Record field observations and collect accurate data.
• Complete daily reports and record-keeping activities.
• Drive a company vehicle between assigned locations.
• Engage with members of the public and provide information when required.

As a Field Officer, you’ll spend your days conducting surveillance and treatment activities across Southern Queensland, working as part of a supportive team dedicated to safeguarding local ecosystems, agriculture, and communities.

About the role

Your day-to-day responsibilities will include:

Pre-employment requirements

• Ability to pass a Drug & Alcohol Screening
• Ability to obtain and pass a National Police Check
