Job summary

Department of Primary Industries (Queensland) is seeking Field Officers to support the National Fire Ant Eradication Program across South East Queensland. You will conduct surveillance, apply bait treatments, inspect properties and maintain field records, contributing to protection of homes, wildlife and industries.

This outdoor, active role requires physical stamina, a current driver’s licence and a willingness to travel between locations such as Burleigh Heads, Wacol and Laidley.

Qualifications

• Must be comfortable working outdoors and on varied terrain.
• Ability to conduct visual surveillance and apply bait treatments.
• Capable of collecting information and completing daily reports.
• Willingness to travel across South East Queensland and work across multiple locations.
• Commitment to safety procedures and good workplace conduct.
• Hold a current driver’s licence and be able to drive between sites.

The National Fire Ant Eradication Program (NFAEP) is working to protect Queensland from one of Australia's most invasive pests. We're looking for motivated, reliable and community-minded people to join our team as Field Officers. This is a great opportunity to gain hands‑on experience, build practical skills and contribute to work that protects our homes, wildlife, environment and industries.

About The Role

As a Field Officer, you'll be part of a supportive team delivering surveillance, treatment and property‑management activities across South East Queensland. Our teams cover a broad geographic area and operate from locations including Burleigh Heads, Berrinba, Wacol, Virginia, Laidley and Mutdapilly. Depending on operational needs and available vacancies, you may be based at one of these locations and work across the surrounding region. Your days will be varied and may include inspecting properties, applying bait treatments, speaking with members of the public and completing accurate field records.

This isn't a desk job. You'll spend much of your day outdoors and on your feet, working in a range of weather conditions and walking across different types of terrain, including uneven, steep or challenging ground. For people who enjoy being active, working outside and having variety in their day, this can be a highly rewarding role. We also know it won't be everyone's cup of tea, so we encourage you to consider whether the outdoor and physical nature of the work is a good fit for you.
