Job summary

APA Australia is seeking a technically minded Mechanical Technician to join the Alice Springs Operations & Maintenance team. The role is hands-on and suited to a local mechanic, fitter or plant technician who enjoys fault-finding and practical work. Training will be provided; gas pipeline experience is not required.

Based in Alice Springs, you will help keep pipeline facilities and mechanical equipment safe, reliable and operating effectively, reporting to the NT South Regional Manager.

Qualifications

• A mechanical trade qualification or solid hands-on mechanical experience.
• Good mechanical aptitude to diagnose faults and complete practical repairs.
• Strong safety mindset and willingness to learn APA’s pipeline equipment, procedures and work systems.
• Ability to work reliably with limited supervision and contribute to a small, supportive field team.
• A current Australian driver’s licence and willingness to travel to remote sites, including occasional overnight stays and extended working hours.
• Basic computer skills for completing work orders, maintenance records and safety documentation.

Responsibilities

• Complete planned and breakdown maintenance on valves, regulators, pumps, engines, compressors and other station equipment.
• Inspect equipment, identify faults and carry out practical repairs to keep facilities operating safely and reliably.
• Assist with equipment installation, testing, servicing and minor mechanical modifications.
• Travel to remote sites across the region and work independently as well as part of a small local team.
• Complete maintenance records and follow APA safety, permit and work management requirements.
• Participate in call-outs, emergency response and site duties as required after training and authorisation.
