Job summary

Downer in Australia is seeking an experienced HSE Advisor to join our Energy and Utilities team, supporting Transmission and Substation projects across Australia and New Zealand. This field-based role reports to the HSE Manager Transmission and Substation, focusing on frontline health, safety and environmental assurance on site.

You will implement Health and Safety Management Plans, lead inductions and toolbox talks, verify licences and training, and support incident investigations and

Qualifications

• Certificate IV in Work Health and Safety or higher.
• Current Construction Industry White Card.
• Experience supporting high risk construction activities and permit to work systems.
• Strong understanding of Australian WHS legislation and risk management.
• Experience conducting inspections, audits and critical control verification.
• Exposure to incident management systems and HSE reporting platforms.
• Experience working with subcontractors, leaders and project teams.
• Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
• High attention to detail with governance and quality documentation.

Responsibilities

• Provide frontline HSE assurance and field-based support on sites.
• Support Health and Safety Management Plans and regulatory compliance.
• Conduct workplace inspections, field observations and verifications of critical controls.
• Deliver project inductions, toolbox talks and safety communications.
• Verify workforce competencies, licences and training requirements.
• Support subcontractor HSE governance, onboarding and performance reviews.
• Participate in incident investigations and corrective action processes.
• Assist with injury management and return-to-work coordination.
• Maintain accurate HSE records and audit-ready documentation.
• Support client audits, regulatory interactions and assurance activities.
