Job summary

Vocus is seeking an experienced Fibre Core Designer in North Sydney to lead end-to-end fibre design, planning and documentation. You will work with Planning, GIS, Construction and Delivery teams to translate capacity needs into scalable, standards-compliant designs and maintain accurate fibre records.

The role emphasizes collaboration, on-call support, and delivering right-first-time designs that boost resilience and future growth of the national network.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Telecommunications, GIS or Engineering.
  • 5+ years' experience in telecoms network planning or fibre design.
  • Strong knowledge of fibre topology, physical and logical design, and optical transport.
  • Experience with GIS tools (QGIS preferred, ArcGIS acceptable).
  • Excellent documentation and stakeholder communication skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft 365 including Outlook, Word, Excel, Visio and Project.

Responsibilities

  • Design and plan logical optical fibre routes for new services and network expansions.
  • Meet established KPIs and SLAs for GIS and design deliverables.
  • Prepare high-quality design documentation including: SoW, line diagrams, cutover schedules, construction design packages.
  • Validate network designs to ensure compliance with Fibre Engineering Standards and industry best practices.
  • Support network upgrades, expansions and integration of new technologies across the fibre network.
  • Provide technical SME guidance on fibre architecture, capacity planning and design standards.
  • Collaborate with GIS teams to: validate geospatial data, digitise optical fibre routes, generate maps and reports, provide spatial insights supporting design decisions.
  • Maintain accurate fibre records, splice schedules and capacity planning data.
  • Work closely with engineers, project managers, delivery partners and contractors to deliver quality outcomes.
  • Participate in an on-call roster to support fault resolution and provide assistance to the National Operations Centre (NOC).
  • Support service delivery activities and assist during fault situations within core business hours.
