Job summary

The Sexual Assault & Family Violence Centre is seeking a casual Refuge Support Worker to provide on-site assistance to women and children in refuge and crisis accommodation in the Barwon region.

You will assess risk, deliver tailored supports, and work within a collaborative team to promote safety and wellbeing for clients while managing a roster that includes sleepovers and public holidays.

Qualifications

About the Sexual Assault & Family Violence Centre

We are a client-centred organisation, supporting the community throughout Barwon, Wimmera, and the South West regions, offering a range of specialist support services to people impacted by sexual and family violence, encompassing 24 hour crisis care, specialist response services, early intervention programs, Victims Assistance Program, Community Legal Services, trauma recovery programs, professional training and primary prevention initiatives.

About The Role

The Family Violence Refuge Support Worker provides onsite support to women and children whoare experiencing or have experienced family violence and are in need of refuge and crisisaccommodation. Working as part of a dynamic team, the Refuge Support Worker will beresponsible to deliver services for women and children who are experiencing family violence andliving in refuge; outside of standard business hours. This role is critical in ensuring the delivery ofindividualised and tailored practical supports for women, young people and children living in refugeand crisis accommodation. A strong understanding of the gendered and complex nature of familyviolence and evidence based risk factors is required to continuously asses a client’s risk andsafety, while also addressing other support needs identified with the client. The role consists of rostered hours of work, including sleepover, weekdays, weekends and public holidays.

Essential Qualifications and Experience

Your application must address the following:

  • A Bachelor or working towards a qualification in social work, psychology or other relevant disciplines.

Essential Skills and Knowledge

  • Conceptual understanding of the assessment of risk in relation to family violence and provision of crisis intervention and casework with women and children from diverse backgrounds who have experienced family violence.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the gendered nature and complex dynamic of family violence including the impact of family violence on women and children
  • Ability to reflect and analyse complex problems and provide workable solutions.
  • Demonstrated capacity to adapt, support and manage change.
  • An understanding of skills required to build relationships with key stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated ability to flexibly manage competing priorities and assist others to do so.
  • Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to the principles of equity, diversity, continual improvement, risk management and occupational health and safety.

Period of Appointment

This position is causal.

Hours of work

  • The position is casual. The role consists of rostered hours of work, including sleepover, weekdays, weekends and public holidays.
  • Location of the position is at the Barwon region (Refuge location(s) not disclosed).
  • Roster including sleepovers, weekdays, weekends and public holidays.
  • The days are based on the needs of the service. Flexibility in working hours will be required from time to time as the need arises.

Salary and Conditions

Specialist Family Violence Practitioner classification, Level 4 Pay Point 1-4. Salary will becommensurate with experience and skills.

Industrial Instrument: The Sexual Assault & Family Violence Centre Enterprise Agreement 2023.

Salary Packaging: Provided via Maxxia. PBI status with other expenses available to package above this cap. The Sexual Assault & Family Violence Centre is a Public Benevolent Institution.

Superannuation: The employer will also make superannuation payments on your behalf in accordance with theSuperannuation Guarantee (Administration) Act 1992.

Probationary Period – 6 months with a review conducted during this time.
